DepEd, DOST Roll Out Cloud Based E-Learning

Cloud Top at Work

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) together with the Department of Education (DepEd) in partnership with the National Engineering Center of the University of the Philippines (UP-NEC) led the distribution and installation of 16 cost-efficient thin clients and a server for the Tambubong Elementary School in San Rafael Bulacan for E-Learning.

A thin client is basically a server based computer, there is no individual CPU instead it relies its computing power from a server thus eliminating costly parts such us hard drive and motherboard. DOST simply called it Cloud Top Project which aims to reduce hardware acquisition cost of computers for educational use.

DepEd will be the one to provide the contents, covering all subjects at the elementary level which in turn will guide teachers on how to conduct their lectures and exercises. This project aims to uplift our educational quality especially in primary levels.
