The MediaTek MT6595 employs four Cortex-A17 plus another four Cortex-A7 CPU that are based on the ARM's big.LITTLE architecture with Heterogeneous Multi-Processing. In layman terms, this means that all of the eight CPU cores can work at the same time. The graphics processing unit is handled by a Series6 PowerVR GPU from Imagination Technologies.

Meanwhile, for its multimedia capability, it can support a camera with a maximum resolution of 20 megapixels, a WQXGA (2560x1600) display controller, support for Ultra HD. or commonly known as 4K, video recording and playback of up to 60 fps.

Aside from the 4G LTE modem, it is also the first MediaTek platform that supports 802.11ac standard for high-throughput, Bluetooth LE and ANT+. Moreover, it also comes with multiple Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) that includes GPS, GLONASS, European Union's Galileo, Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), and China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). Moreover, it will also support multiple inductive and resonant wireless charging standards.

This new MediaTek processor will be commercially available in the first half of 2014, and we can expect Android phones and tablets using this system on a chip around the second half of this year.

Note:

This post was updated to correct the chip model name, which is MT6595 and not MT6596 when it was first published.
