Smart Brings Its Satellite Service To Wider Market With New Devices


Smart Communications commercially launched SmartSat, a service which brings satellite communications to a greater heights by providing new devices and greater coverage.

A partnership with Thuraya Telecommunication Company, a leading mobile satellite provider, was made September of last year, which brings wider uninterrupted communication throughout whole Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Australia.

Back then it only offers satellite adapter for old Apple iPhone, but this time they added sleeves for the new iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S4 and a stand-alone phone named XT. Each device is being offered in SmartSat package worth Php38,500 which includes a special satellite SIM with an initial load of USD225.

The remote voice call costs $0.57 for Smart, TNT and Sun while $0.80 for other networks while international call cost somewhere from $0.57 to $5.75 depending on the location. The SMS service costs $0.23 per message and $0.015 per 15KB for data connection.
