|WD Introduces AE Series Hard Disk Drives for Datacenter Archive|
Western Digital introduces its WD Ae hard drive series, which is designed for archive tiers of web-scale data centers.
These hard drive features a Progressive Capacity model for large-scale cloud infrastructures which allows them to offer hard drives to take advantage of their full capacity at a very efficient power consumption.
Built on an extreme areal density on a high volume mechanical platform, the WD Ae hard drive series features a five-platter platform and a storage space of at least 6 TB. It also has a SATA interface of 6 GB/s and a reliability rating of 60 TB/year. WD Ae hard drives are also rated with 500Khrs of Mean Time Before Failure.
WD’s Ae series hard drives are also capable of categorizing stored data into hot and cold. Cold storage is reserved for important, yet infrequently-accessed data. Those that have been categorized under cold storage are given a more relaxed retrieval time as compared to frequently-accessed data.
WD Ae hard drives will be sold in box quantities of 20 and it will be available in the Philippines by late 2014. These storage drives come with a three-year limited warranty.
