Google Hails First Philippine Web Rangers

Google Philippines in cooperation with the National Youth Council, hailed the first ever winner of its Web Rangers "Search for Online Heroes" program.

The Web Rangers program was launched last March, which aims to make the internet more enjoyable and safer from cyberbullies. The program recruited 60 students (out of more than 300 applicants) from different schools in Metro Manila aged 14 to 21. These students were grouped into 12 teams with 5 members each and were tasked to come out with the possible campaign against cyber bullying. The teams were helped by creative agency DM9 JaymeSyfu through workshop and training.

Out of the 12 campaigns, the group of Hyun Ju Song of De La Salle Santiago Zobel, Adj Regidor of Enderun College, Haedric Daguman of St. John of Beverley School, Bea Aquino and Reanna Noel of Miriam College High School, emerged the winner. The teenagers produced a social experiment wherein they hand out cards containing insults to random people and asked them gave it away to people. At the end of the day, none of the cards were given away, for the main reason that they are hurtful and demeaning. You can watch the full video at
