|Smart Registered Php12.5 Billion Mobile Data Revenue|
With half of their 65 million subscribers using smartphones, Smart Communications reports a 45 percent increase in its mobile data revenue of Php12.5 billion from September 2015 to September 2016. Usage rate from January to September 2016 also increased by 43 percent.
Because of the increase in revenue and usage rate, wireless revenues have also increased as data accounted for 32 percent of the total wireless revenues from July to September 2016. This is up from 30 percent in the second quarter and 28 percent in the first.

To retain the increase in mobile data usage, Smart has come up with offerings that will satisfy their subscribers. One is their partnership with ABS-CBN for iWantTV. Smart subscribers can use their prepaid load or postpaid accounts to watch ABS-CBN shows, movies, and other offerings via streaming. Also, they are offering high-volume data packages at affordable rates like the GigaSurf50 which provides 1GB of data for only Php50.
To improve its network and reach, Smart is amidst a Php48 billion, three-year expansion program that will give rise to 4G-centric networks, full integration of Smart and Sun, and establishment of Wi-Fi hotspots in high-volume traffic areas and transportation hubs around the country.
