|Visa Introduces Payment-Enabled Sunglasses That Can Pay for Things|
The sunglasses, which appears to be a pair of regular shades, use NFC technology to connect to a Visa payment terminal. The prototype was recently unveiled at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas and simultaneously at the World Surf League's 2017 Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro in Gold Coast, Australia.
A local Australian brand called Local Supply is said to have made the glasses that contain a small contactless card, which allows it to work as a contactless payment method.
To use it for payment, you simply have to take off the sunglasses and tap it on the NFC-enabled Visa terminal. No need for swiping. It is pegged to benefit surfers who stay on the beach and want to make a purchase without their wallets with them. Bringing sunglasses rather than a wallet make a lot of sense.
We have no word yet whether it will reach non-surfing customers. There's also no announcement yet regarding its cost and availability. But, we sure are interested in getting a hold of one of these Visa sunglasses if it ever reaches our local shores.
