Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 450 Chipset for Mid-Range Mobile Devices

Qualcomm has made the new Snapdragon 450 SoC official. The chipset, which is built for mid-range smartphones and tablets, is considered to be the first in its tier to use 14nm FinFET process.

The new Snapdragon 450 is said to have been designed to deliver major improvements in battery life, CPU and GPU performance, imaging, and LTE connectivity over its Snapdragon 435 predecessor.

One of the improvements is the power management, adding up to four hours of usage time as well as up to a 30-percent reduction in power when gaming. The Snapdragon 450 also features Quick Charge 3.0 support.

In addition, the integrated Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU can deliver a 25-percent increase in graphics performance.

Third on the line are the improvements in imaging. Among those in the Snapdragon 400 series, the Snapdragon 450 will be the first to support real-time bokeh effects. It will also now have support for dual camera setups at 13 megapixels each and single camera up to 21 megapixels.

Moreover, Qualcomm's newest chipset has the Snapdragon X9 LTE modem and supports USB 3.0. It also has support for Full HD display and Hexagon DSP.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is expected to be available in mobile devices before the end of 2017.
