HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela Resigns Ahead of Nokia 8 Launch

HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela Resigns Ahead of Nokia 8 Launch

As the launch date of the new Nokia 8 draws near, we expect to hear more good news about the phone. In a quite surprising turn of events, however, the phone's maker HMD Global announced that its CEO Arto Nummela is leaving the company ahead of the upcoming launch with immediate effect.

HMD Global or simply HMD is a Finnish company that now holds the rights to the Nokia branding. Last month, as some of you may remember, HMD officially released its latest phones in the Philippines, including the Nokia 356 and the iconic 3310.

Since Nummela resigned, the company's president, Florian Seiche, has been appointed to take over the position and act as CEO of the company.

Here is what Sam Chin, HMD Global's chairman of the board, had to say regarding the matter:

"Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors."

According to an HMD spokesman, as reported by Reuters, Nummela's departure was a "personal matter between him and the company's board of directors," although no further details have been revealed.
