Smart conducted a test recently in Marikina City using Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, and as a result, its LTE-A network has recorded consistent speeds of over 300Mbps in a single-user scenario, and over 200Mbps in a multi-user.

“These real-world tests show that we have in place a network that’s capable of providing extremely high speeds at par with those delivered by operators in other countries,” Joachim Horn, chief technology and information advisor at PLDT and Smart, addressed.

Carrier Aggregation, also known as the combination of multiple frequency channels, will provide a wider highway for the flow of mobile data. Thus, it enables faster internet speeds.

Smart has started deploying LTE-A in urban areas where the majority of its subscribers uses advanced devices. Then, they will roll this out down to the rest of the country, too.  However, in Metro Manila, the roll out will be done using 4CC – a combination of four separate frequency channels to give greater capacity and speeds.

Smart claimed that this is part of their commitment in deploying high-speed LTE across the country. In fact, the company recorded the fastest LTE connectivity in the country according to wireless research firm OpenSignal.
