Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has widen its lead in LTE/4G speeds nationwide, according to wireless coverage research firm OpenSignal.

Covering the months of September to November 2017, the crowd-sourced data gathered by OpenSignal showed that Smart has an average LTE download speeds of 11.7Mbps compared to 7.3Mbps of its competitor.

“The latest OpenSignal results show that our investments in and focus on network improvements are bearing fruit. The continuous expansion of our LTE and 3G networks is bringing a better experience to our customers across the country,” Mario Tamayo, PLDT and Smart Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering, addressed.

Smart also led across all measured areas, recording 13.2Mbps in Metro Manila, 7.7Mbps in Visayas, and 12.1Mbps in South Luzon, while its competitor had 8.2Mbps, 6.8Mbps, and 6.3Mbps, respectively.

Also, the telco giant showed significant improvements in terms of 3G and LTE coverage.

“Compared to last year, the OpenSignal report says Smart has more than doubled its lead in LTE speeds across all areas, while improvements across regions have also been noted in terms of 3G speeds as a result of our extensive network improvement efforts,” Tamayo said.

According to the result, Smart’s LTE availability has improved from 35.86% (January 2017) to 58.07% of the recent report. Meanwhile, in 3G coverage, the company’s nationwide 3G availability has improved from 67.89-percent to 74.45-percent.
