ZTE is one of the Chinese manufacturer, along side with Huawei and Lenovo that belongs to the Top 5 mobile manufacturers in the world. According to Canalys, ZTE was on the number 4 spot last Q4 of 2012 in terms of number of units shipped worldwide. However in the Philippines we don't really feel ZTE's presence in the mobile market.

While I am checking a community online store, I stumble upon the ZTE V987 Grand X Quad. Due to curiosity I made a quick check about its specification and as the name suggests it is actually a quad core device. I have not heard this ZTE model before and I just found out that it was announced last CES 2013 together with ZTE's flagship Grand S.

The ZTE Grand X Quad uses the MediaTek MT6589 chipset which is the same processor used in Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0, SKK Mobile Silver, MyPhone A919i and O+ 8.15.

Key Specs:

  • Dual SIM , Dual Standby
  • 5" capacitive High Definition LCD (1280 x 720)
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2
  • 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 Quad Core CPU, PowerVR SGX544MP GPU MediaTek MT6589 chipset
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB internal, expandable up to 32GB via micro SD
  • 8MP auto focus BSI main camera with LED Flash, 1080p Video Recording
  • 1MP secondary camera
  • GPS with A-GPS and EPO assistance
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct
  • 3.5 Audio Jack
  • Stereo FM Radio
  • MP3/MP4 Player
  • Micro USB 2.0
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2500mAh Li-Ion Battery
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Proximity, Light, Compass
As you can see on the above specification, it is pretty similar to local brand's flagship. The main advantage is having an 8GB internal memory (same with SKK Mobile Silver). It is currently offered at CMK Cellphones for only PHP 11,500. This could be your alternative to  more expensive O+ 8.15 (which has an SRP of PHP 12, 999).
