Android 4.4 KitKat |
It is now official, the next iteration of the Google Android Operating System will be known as KitKat. The version is 4.4 which is different to the long-rumored 5.0 Key Lime Pie. This keeps the company's tradition of naming their O/S version after a certain kind of dessert.
Google has internally preferred the Key Lime Pie but decided to change it to KitKat since the latter will help them reach the Nestle folks and they realized that only few people know the taste of the former.
Android KitKat |
The KitKat slogan, "to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody" hints us that Google are planning something big, everybody could mean that they would bring it to the masses by producing low-cost smartphones or it could mean diversifying the O/S to other gadgets like watch, gaming console or even laptop.
One important thing left unanswered, would it resolve the fragmentation issue of the Android O/S? Having different manufacturers and different O/S versions makes it hard for developers to unify their apps or games. It also makes hard for manufacturers to release timely O/S updates, we all knew that there are still tons of devices running in Ice Cream Sandwich or maybe even Gingerbread.
Is the new O/S a game changer? What new features it would bring? Head on the comment section below for us to know your opinion.
