HARDWARE:
Front |
The Mirage S1 is an HTC One copycat , the front is mainly covered by the 5-inch screen which is encased in a black glass frame making an illusion that the bezels are thin. The soft touch keys are in the lower part of that frame.
The loudspeaker grill is at the bottom while the earpiece is at the top, both have the same footprint. The secondary camera is located at the upper left corner, there is no light sensor or even the more important proximity sensor.
Back |
The back is made of white matte plastic, it is not prone to fingerprints or smudges. However, for people who have sweaty hands like me be careful because it is a dirt magnet and you might stain it in an instant. At the upper part, you can find the center-aligned 5MP camera accompanied by an LED flash.
Battery Compartment, micro SD and SIM slots |
Upon removing the back cover the 1700mAh battery will be revealed. The micro SD and SIM cards are NOT hot-swappable, you need to take out the battery before you can access them.
Top |
Bottom |
The 3.5mm audio jack together with the micro USB port are located at the top of the phablet. There is nothing at the bottom except for the mouthpiece.
Left |
Right |
The left side holds the volume rocker while on the right is the power button.
The phone design might be similar to HTC One but the Mirage S1 is in no way will feel premium in your hand. Its looks are acceptable especially that it was borrowed from the One, however the material used for its body seems not tough and I am a bit concern that it may easily get dings and dents when bump into a hard surface.
DISPLAY:
3-point multi-touch |
The Mirage S1 has a 5-inch screen with FWVGA (854x480) resolution and it supports up to 3-point multi-touch.
Landscape View |
The screen is made from ordinary panel and it is quite reflective which mean you will have a hard time using it under direct sunlight.
Screen Gap |
One thing I noticed is that there seems to be a gap between the outer glass and the touchscreen inside (see above photo).
SENSORS:
Sensor |
The only sensor in this smartphone is the accelerometer, it is a bit shameful that they do not include even a proximity sensor.
BENCHMARKS:
Antutu, 11099 |
Quadrant, 3441 |
NenaMark2, 39.1fos |
Vellamo ,HTML 1709 & Metal 523 |
In the above benchmarks, the higher the better. This is where the MediaTek MT6572 kicks-in, it scored impressively on all benchmarks especially on Vellamo where it even outscored the quad-core Cherry Mobile Flare 2X.
To see how it performs against other dual core smartphones that we reviewed in the past please kindly see below.
INITIAL VERDICT:
The Mirage S1 is the top of the line dual core smartphone from SKK Mobile, its internals are even better than the more expensive (and older) Titanium and Radiance. It scored well in the usual sets of benchmarks which in theory translate into a better real life performance.
Please kindly stay tuned for the full review in two weeks time.
