ASUS has been quite fast in terms of releasing their products in the Philippines, those appeared in the international tech scenes are quick to arrive in the country, just like the ASUS ZenFone AR that was showcased in the Computex 2017 less than a month ago.

The Asus ZenFone AR is the first device to come both with Google Daydream VR and Tango AR. There are several handsets in the market that supports one of these features, but not both, let's say Google Pixel for the Daydream and Lenovo PHAB2 Pro for the Tango.

It sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Wide Quad HD resolution topped with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for added protection. On the inside, it uses the slightly ageing Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, the same chipset found in the LG G6 and OnePlus 3T. This SoC has quad core Krypo CPU coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The volatile RAM is 8GB, while the ROM is pegged at a whopping 128GB with the option to expand it further up to 256GB.

At the back of the device is the triple camera set-up, which is necessary for the Tango Augmented Reality feature. The main one has 23MP sensor, and the two others are used for depth sensing and motion tracking. For uninitiated, the Tango camera scans the real-world objects and creates stunning 3D of that environment straight to the phone's display. Meanwhile, the Daydream is intended to improve Virtual Reality experience on Android devices, but it is not a standalone platform, and a Google VR headset is needed.

Again,  these are not something new, Lenovo PHAB2 Pro is the first one to have Tango and Google Pixel is the alpha of Daydream. For now, these features are still best viewed as a novelty rather than a game-changer, especially that real-life application is still somewhat limited. But, if you deem it as the latter, so be it, just prepare Php44,995 when it becomes available next month.
