The City of Makati recently partnered with Globe Telecom to launch the Makatizen Card, allowing its more than 500,000 residents and employees to access its services and transact with the local government with ease.

To make this project possible, Makati City also teamed up with Globe’s subsidiary G-Xchange Inc. (GXI), and iBayad Online Ventures Inc. As part of the partnership, GXI is named as the Makatizen Card financial service provider, while iBayad is set to install the mPOS terminals and build the merchant network where the cards will be accepted.

Through the Makatizen Card, cardholders will be able to receive their cash allowances and benefits. The card can also be used for paying government fees and taxes or even in their personal remittances and transactions.

Valid as a government ID card, the city government employees can also use the card in receiving salaries as it serves as an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, too.
The cardholders will also enjoy various financial services of GCash through the merchant network of iBayad. Also, there will be a Makatizen Loyalty and Rewards Program to promote continued use of the card.
“With confidence and optimism, we view this unsolicited project proposal from Globe, GCash, and iBayad as the springboard for the rapid transformation of Makati into the country’s first digital city, where citizens and civil servants are able to experience the optimum benefits of the latest innovations in information technology,” Mayor Binay said.
Bragging the pride to be the first LGU in the country to go digital, Hon. Abigail Binay, City Mayor of Makati, said that their collaboration with Globe, GCash, and iBayad would help their administration in giving a more convenient life to its citizen, including those in the marginalized sectors of the city.
