The Huawei Y7 Prime is currently the top-tier device in Huawei's Y series, and one of the few phones from the Chinese maker that sells under 10K pesos. It belongs to the mid-range segment and has lots of good things to offer. But, does it has enough features to tackle the very competitive sub-Php10K market? Let's find out in this review!

The Huawei Y7 Prime looks simple, yet classy, however, in the generation of slim bezels and 18:9 display, the phone's simplicity won't catch the crowd's attention. In defense of the Y7 Prime, 5.5-inch display has an impressive brightness, which makes reading outdoors and at night (with "eye comfort" mode turned on) very convenient.
In terms of handling and ergonomics, it is lightweight and very uncomplicated to use with one hand.

The phone's operating system runs on Android 7.0 Nougat topped with the company’s own skin, which is the EMUI 5.1. By default, it doesn't come with an app drawer, where all the applications are found on the home screen. You can switch it to the settings if you like to use the app drawer. There are some pre-installed apps, and Huawei includes a lot of their own, such as the Health, HiCare and HiGame applications.

Benchmark Results |
The Huawei Y7 Prime comes with a 1.4GHz octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The device comes with 32GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB by adding MicroSD card.
We ran some benchmark tests on the device, and below are the scores.
AnTuTu v7 - 56,611
3DMark Ice Storm Extreme - 6,044
3DMark Ice Storm - 9,931
3DMark OpenGL ES 3.1 - 343
3DMark Vulkan - 310
3DMark Sling Shot - 617
Work 2.0 - 3,847
Geekbench Single-Core - 636
Geekbench Multi-Core - 2,583
Geekbench Renderscript - 2,233
During our time with the device, we didn’t face any issues in the performance. Multitasking was smooth and consistent, even if multiple heavy apps were used at the same time with an ease. Gaming-wise, the smartphone performed as well. We were able to play 3D high comprehensive games (most of the time, in medium settings) without any noticeable lags. We also didn’t encounter any particular warming issues with the smartphone. Overall, the phone gets good impressions from us in the performance sector.

As far as the rear camera goes, the device produced crisp images and good dynamic range with lots of details, especially in daylight times. Also, the color reproduction and sharpness are decent. As a typical sub-P10K smartphone, the quality of the photos it produced falls significantly in low-light and looks grainy and gloomy. On the other hand, video recording on the phone can shoot up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.
The front camera outputs are on the average side, especially when beautification is off. But, shooting with beautify mode feature turned on usually gives a nice output. There is also an option that enables the user to take selfies with bokeh effect or the portrait mode wherein it focuses more on the foreground and blur the background.

CONNECTIVITY:
The Huawei Y7 Prime uses the standard IEEE 802.11 b/g/n network for wireless internet connectivity, and supports only the 2.4GHz band. The reception reaches our expectation and most of the times, stable. Meanwhile, the smartphone mobile data can theoretically reach 150Mbps and 300Mbps of download and upload speed respectively with the LTE Category 7.
The device also uses GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS positioning and location based services. It took five seconds to pinpoint us outdoors and was accurate within 15 meters. On the other note, wired connections include 3.5mm audio jack and MicroUSB port.
BATTERY:

PC Mark Work Battery Life Score |
Compared to its competitors, the Y7 Prime fares relatively well and has good battery life. A single charge of the 4,000mAh battery, should easily last for a day or almost 2 days for most users. It also offers various energy saving modes that increase the battery uptime.
Meanwhile, it recharges to 100% within three hours using the default power adapter.
CONCLUSION:
The highlight of Huawei Y7 Prime is its extremely long battery life with nice power consumption. There’s no rebuffing that the battery has long runtime, but what makes the phone a more feasible option is the price tag of Php9,990 which is very reasonable. The phone will surely appeal to the consumers who’d buy it merely for the battery life.
But do not get us wrong, Huawei has managed to create a good mid-range smartphone under the Y series with the Y7 Prime. It also impresses us with its robust build, decent front and back cameras, and smooth overall performance.
Unfortunately, the Y7 Prime still has an HD resolution display and doesn't have any fast charging capacity, so you'll need patience for almost 3 hours in order to refill the empty battery to a full 100%.
