| Filipino-owned TNC HYPE Set to Rival Grab; Offers Php3,000 Sign-up Bonus! |
In case you missed it, Hype will soon share the roads of Metro Manila with Grab. Just like the latter, the new TNC will utilize private cars. The twist? The riding public can also book a ride through text. On that note, Hype Chief Operating Officer Jen Silan explained that the SMS booking is free of charge for both rider and driver.
For comparison purposes, Hype has a base fare of Php40 with an additional Php14 fee per kilometer. It taps its surge at two times, and does not charge per minute. Meanwhile, Grab also has a base fare of Php40 with an additional fare of Php10 to Php14 per kilometer. It caps its surge at two times, too, but it charges Php2 per minute.
On the other hand, consumers can also choose a ride that suits their budget on HYPE. It includes HYPE Taxi, where you can book a taxi through the app; HYPE Pool that lets you share a ride with other commuter; HYPE Sedan, or a regular ride for up to four (4) people; HYPE AUV, an affordable option for bigger groups of up to six (6) people; and HYPE SUV, a premium ride that matches business and leisure trips.
Moreover, the accreditation of HYPE marks the dual TNC for both drivers and operators. Unlike before, LTFRB implements a common supply base for app-based drivers. This means that a driver can now serve in any existing accredited TNCs. However, they still need to have themselves accredited by their chosen TNC for accountability.

So, here’s how you can register on Hype!
First, an aspiring HYPE partner must submit all the required documents, including:
- Operator Requirements: Government ID, TIN ID, and PA/CPC
- Vehicle Requirements: OR/CR, Images of Vehicle (Front, Rear, Left Side, Right Side, Dashboard, and Back Seat), Comprehensive Car Insurance, and Passenger Insurance
- Driver Requirements: NBI Clearance, Police Clearance, and Professional Driver’s License
- Additional Requirements for Drivers age 60 and above: Medical Certificate that certifies that the driver is fit to drive
In addition, they must register and complete their requirements on or before June 17 to get a Php3,000 sign-up bonus upon activation. They must also complete the on-boarding session, while only drivers under operators and operator-drivers will be considered successfully registered.
Meanwhile, the sign-up bonus will be in the form of top-up credits, which will be non-transferable and not convertible to cash.
