Microsoft Joins DICT's National ICT Summit 2018 in Davao City

Last June 2018, the annual National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit was held in Davao City with the theme “Empowering the Filipino through Digital Transformation”. To empower the Filipinos, Microsoft Philippines, discussed the impact of ICT in the development of the country.

It has been a tradition since 2008 to celebrate the ICT Month every June because of the Proclamation No. 1521, series of 2008. The proclamation was made because ICT is recognized as a strategic tool for the growth government services and in driving economic growth.

Over 500 government executives, ICT managers and practitioners, local government officials, academics, the private sector, students, and ICT industry players attended the National ICT Summit to learn more about the latest trends in ICT. Our very own President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was present as he was the guest of honor and speaker at the two-day summit.

The role of ICT’s in our modern digital world is significant in the development of government services. DICT showed through ICT projects, how government processes will improve their efficiency. More efficient processes mean more satisfied customers. DICT did not lack of learning platforms available to further understand the how ICT technologies work and what are the new trends.

Moreover, they give emphasis on the effects of ICT in the effectiveness and management of government programs like the “Build, Build, Build” Program and the “Ambisyon Nation 2040”. Our government is always looking for opportunities to implement ICT, give accurate information to the Filipinos and give high quality services that the citizens deserve.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Philippines emphasize on the effects of ICT in the growth of the Philippines. They pointed out the economic impact of digital transformation, unseen cost of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and ICT’s value in the development of the country.

Technology should not control us, but we should control technology. Which is why Microsoft thoroughly informed the attendees about the risk of having a lax cybersecurity. They also highlighted the usage of conversational AI and its contribution in this digital revolution. Attendees were reminded that the Philippines can also enjoy the usage of AI at its full potential like the other countries who are already using it.
