Samsung Galaxy J8 Unveils in PH for Only Php15,990; Pre-Order Starts on July 21

Samsung is very aggressive in the Philippine market as they launch several smartphones almost every month. Last May was the Galaxy A6 and A6+, a month ago was the Galaxy J6, and this July is the new addition to the J series, the Samsung Galaxy J8.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 is far superior than the J6 and the J7 series in terms of specs and features. But, it is not surprising as we all know that the higher number attached to its name means an upgrade from its predecessor. What caught our attention is the fact that it is better than the Galaxy A6, which is an A series that is supposed to be higher in order than the J family. Not only that, its specs is pretty close to the more expensive A6+.

To begin with, the J8 and A6+ have the same screen size, that is 6-inch Super AMOLED 18.5:9 display, albeit it has HD+ resolution as to compared to FHD+ of the latter. They also have the same processor, the 1.8GHz octa core Qualcomm SDM450 chip. The RAM and ROM are slightly toned down though, only 3GB+32GB as opposed to 4GB+64GB of the A6.

The similarities does not stop there, they also have the same rear camera setup, or shall I say cameras, that is 16MP f/1.7 PDAF + 5MP f/1.9 FF shooters. Meanwhile, the selfie snapper comes with 16MP f/1.9 sensor with LED flash. Additionally, they have the same power cell with 3500mAh rating, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, connectivity options, and Android Oreo operating system.

The biggest difference between the two is the asking price, the Galaxy J8 is far more affordable at only Php15,990 than the A6 Plus' a bit steep SRP of Php22,990. Not only that, they are also offering pre-order promotion starting July 21, wherein those who will reserve their unit will receive freebies worth Php3,500, which includes a JBL Clib 2 BT speaker, screen protection and insurance. But wait there is more, those who will get it during the launch weekend on August 4 and 5 will also get an additional 1000 pesos off, bringing down the price to just Php14,990. To be honest, the J8 is one of the best midrange offerings of Samsung for quite a long time in terms of price-to-specs ratio.

What do you think guys? Is it worth a shot?
