“EON continues to be co-created by the e-gig community, which includes online freelancers, online sellers and now, the Grab Peers. For UnionBank, on the other hand, this only served as the first among many initiatives with the ride-hailing company.

“We at UnionBank aim to provide financial services to the unbanked and undeserved Filipinos so we will continue to revolutionize our products and services and remain open to powerful partners like Grab that will lead us to this objective. We are very excited to partner with Grab – a market leader in the region in the ride-hailing and logistics services – and tech up their accredited drivers,” UnionBank President and CEO Edwin Bautista noted.

Through the EON app, Grab Peers can secure their money by locking his card on the app. When locked, their accounts stay protected even when someone tries to withdraw their money using a fake card. The drivers will be notified through an SMS and/or email, too, informing them that a transaction was attempted.

Meanwhile, to make its partnership more moving, UnionBank sponsored five financial literacy workshops for over 100,000 Grab drivers and their wives in Metro Manila and Cebu. The program eyes to educate drivers on managing their finances.
