Shopee sent an apology to Filipino Blinks for the issues involving the Shopee x BLACKPINK meet-and-greet last night in Manila. Later on, the brand admitted that the “event fell short of the high standards that Shopee users and BLACKPINK fans expect.”

“All of us at Shopee would like to sincerely apologize to users and fans of Shopee and BLACKPINK for the issues involving the Shopee x BLACKPINK meet-and-greet today in Manila. The event fell short of the high standards that Shopee users and BLACKPINK fans expect, and we hear our community’s feedback loud and clear.Although we took immediate steps as soon as we discovered our errors to ensure the rightful winners of our contest could claim their prizes, we know that the entire process caused confusion, disappointment, and upset for many Shopee users and BLACKPINK fans. We are reaching out to all those affected by this issue, and we are also taking steps to ensure that such an incident does not occur again in the future.”

In case you missed it, Shopee recently introduced BLACKPINK as their newest brand ambassador. To celebrate it, the e-commerce site announced that the group would have a meet-and-greet event, where Shopee top spenders were promised tickets to the said gathering. Moreover, the company even teased that the top 40 spenders would get autographs from members of the K-pop group.

With this, Filipino BLINKS spent up to more than Php200,000 to score this “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” However, several fans claimed that they were denied entry despite scoring tickets by spending tens of thousands of pesos. Hence, #ShopeeScam was trending in the Philippines and Worldwide on Twitter. Because of this, Korean websites were able to notice the issue.

BLACKPINK fans also revealed that Shopee suddenly changed their mechanics, while the company claimed that the previous notifications were just wrongly sent out. On top of this, BLINKS were mad after seeing that the event was jam-packed by influencers and artists.

Nevertheless, Shopee promised that the incident will not happen again.
