With this acquisition, Google revealed that it would pay USD 7.35 per share for the San Francisco-based Fitbit.

It’s not surprising that the tech giant decided to buy Fitbit as we all know that Google has been developing its own Wear OS since 2014. However, it struggles to introduce a wearable hardware that can battle out devices from its rivals Apple, Samsung, and others.

Google noted that it will “spur innovation in wearables and build helpful products to benefit more people around the world.”

Meanwhile, some Fitbit users expressed their disappointment over the deal, as they raised their privacy issue with Google. To clear things out, both companies explained that health and wellness data will not be used for Google ads.

“We understand this is a big responsibility and we work hard to protect your information, put you in control and give you transparency about your data. Similar to our other products, with wearables, we will be transparent about the data we collect and why. We will never sell personal information to anyone. Fitbit health and wellness data will not be used for Google ads,” Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President, Devices and Services, addressed.

Moreover, Google said that they will give Fitbit users the choice to review, move, or delete their data.
