Angkas Gets 20-day TRO Against New Policy Issued by LTFRB and DOTr |
In case you missed it, LTFRB recently announced its new policy, which will limit the number of Angkas bikers to only 10,000 in Manila and 3,000 in Cebu. With this, Angkas rallied against the government’s new provision as it will put 17,000 riders at risk of losing their jobs.
Now, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QC RTC) granted a 20-day TRO against the cap implemented by the LTFRB. The QC RTC also affirmed the stand of several congressmen and the Philippine Competition Committee (PCC) in previous weeks.

In an interview, PCC Commissioner Johannes Bernabe stated that forcing Angkas to lay off 17,000 biers will take away what was rightfully obtained by the company.
“Being big per se is not necessarily bad. It’s the abuse of that dominant position [that’s bad]," Bernabe was reported to have said.
Bernabe also highlighted that Angkas grew out of its own efforts. "In a sense, you are taking away what Angkas has worked hard on obtaining, which is a driver base," he explained.
