The Huawei P40 serves an affordable alternative to the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+. It is slightly more compact than its Pro siblings with its 6.1-inch OLED display with Full HD+. The screen has a pill-shape cutout wherein the 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera resides along with the IR biometric sensor.
As always, the Huawei camera innovations are one of the highlights of its flagship offerings, and even the non-pro variant is equipped with great hardware. The primary shooter comes with a 50MP Ultra Vision module with a wide-angle lens, f/1.9 aperture, a huge sensor size of 1/1.28-inch, RYYB color filer, Octa Phase Detection Autofocus, and Optical Image Stabilization. Meanwhile, the telephone and ultrawide modules are similar, if not the same with that of the Huawei Mate 30 - 8MP f/2.4 with 3x Optical Zoom and 16MP f/2.2.

On the inside, it is powered by the same HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset found in the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G. This chip is based on 7nm+ FinFET EUV process that has octa-core CPU clocked up to 2.86GHz, ARM Mali-G76MP16 GPU, and built-in 5G chip. It only has one RAM + ROM configuration, which is 8GB + 128GB. The storage is expandable via the SIM 2 slot. However, it uses a Nano Memory card instead of the usual MicroSD card.

Moving on, the battery has a typical value of 3,800mAh and supports 22.5W Huawei SuperCharge technology. Connectivity-wise, it has multiple bands 4G and 5G for mobile data, 2x2 MIMO WiFi, Bluetooth version 5.1, NFC, and USB Type-C port. Unlike its P30 predecessor, the P40 does not have a 3.5mm audio jack anymore.
It runs on EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10, and just like recent Huawei devices, it does not come with Google Mobile Service. Instead, it uses Huawei Mobile Services.
