If you read closely, GIGA Music 299, 399, and 499 are almost identical, except for the size of the open-access data included in the promo, 4GB, 6GB 8GB, respectively. These offers are good, but if you want to save some money, we recommend the GIGA Music 99 with 2GB open access data for 7 days.

Here's why. If you subscribe to Music 99 for four weeks consecutively, you will get a total of 8GB open-access data and validity of 28 days for a total cost of 396 pesos. Yes, this is not 30 days, but the price to pay is much lower than Music 499, and both have 8GB of data. The same is true when you compare it to Music 399; it has 2GB more data and 3 pesos cheaper.

But, how much data does Spotify really consume? Spotify has a total of 5 music streaming quality - low, normal, high, very high, and the last one is automatic. In essence, the higher the music's quality, the more data it uses, but it still uses much lower data than video. So, how long before you burn the 1GB of free data? Again, it depends on the music quality.

How Much Data Does Spotify Use?

Low (24kbps):
  • Data consumed per minute - 180KB or 0.18MB (24kbps x 60s then divided by 8)
  • Data consumed per hour - 10.8MB (0.18MB x 60)
  • Therefore, you need 92.59 hours to burn 1GB of data while listening to Spotify at 24kbps (1000MB divided by 10.8MB)
Normal (96kbps)
  • Data consumed per minute - 720KB or 0.72MB (96kbps x 60s then divided by 8)
  • Data consumed per hour - 43.2MB (0.72MB x 60)
  • Therefore, you need 23.15 hours to burn 1GB of data while listening to Spotify at 96kbps (1000MB divided by 43.2MB)
High (160kbps)
  • Data consumed per minute - 1.2MB (160kbps x 60s then divided by 8)
  • Data consumed per hour - 72MB (1.2MB x 60)
  • Therefore, you need 13.89 hours to burn 1GB of data while listening to Spotify at 160kbps (1000MB divided by 72MB)
Very High (320kbps)
  • Data consumed per minute - 2.4MB (320kbps x 60s then divided by 8)
  • Data consumed per hour - 144MB (2.4MB x 60)
  • Therefore, you need 6.94 hours to burn 1GB of data while listening to Spotify at 24kbps (1000MB divided by 144MB)

If you listen to the same songs, the data consumed will be lower since Spotify has the ability to cache the music you have previously listened to.

On the other hand, Apple Music streaming quality maxes out at 256kbps, which translates to 1.92MB per minute or 115.2MB per hour of listening, and gives you a total of 8.68 hours before the free 1GB runs out.

Given the information and details above, we can simply say that the GIGA Music offer of Smart and TNT is ideal for music lovers, specifically those people who love to listen to Spotify or Apple Music on the go. Thankfully, it now also includes access to YouTube, enticing more subscribers.

Please take note, though, that it does not include a subscription to the said streaming platforms. For reference, the Spotify Premium subscription costs 129 pesos (less than US$3) in the Philippines.
