Visa, Shopee Call for Support for Local Merchants, SMEs Through Where You Shop Matters Campaign |
The said initiative is part of Visa’s efforts to support 10 million small and micro-businesses across the Asia Pacific, and a global commitment from the Visa Foundation to provide COVID-19 emergency relief worth USD 210 million for small businesses impacted by the pandemic.
Under the said campaign, SMEs will receive a Visa eCommerce Starter Kit, which will help them in starting, managing, and growing their online business. Visa has also tapped BigCommerce to offer online sellers special and discounted packages with digital tools useful in establishing their online shops, including Office 365 packages and Google Ads cashback.

According to Dan Wolbert, Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam, through the Where You Shop Matters campaign, Visa is addressing the change in consumer behaviors, particularly in e-commerce platforms.
“The partnership with Shopee will help us support thousands of local businesses in the Philippines. We are confident that Filipinos will help support the local economy, especially since our study showed that 95 percent of Filipino consumers will purchase from local retailers to support small business recovery,” Wolbert added.
The said study also bared that 77 percent of Filipino consumers believe in the importance of online presence for local retailers.
Shopee Philippines Associate Director Martin Yu, meanwhile, said that Shopee and Visa share the common mission of helping MSMEs and aid them in adapting the digital platform more.
“Shopee commits to offer our sellers and MSMEs a more secure, seamless, and rewarding way to do business online, and we will continue to explore new ways to help them succeed,” Yu said.
