According to GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman, the new GoPro HERO9 Black is their response to customers looking for a value-for-money device.

“HERO9 Black is a beast of a product. And, reducing as much plastic as possible from our business is a priority for us. We’re excited to package HERO9 Black in a high-value travel case instead of traditional wasteful packaging, and we’re committed to doing the same with the rest of our cameras by the end of 2021,” Woodman said.

The HERO9 Black flaunts a new 1.4-inch front color display with live preview and status modes, plus a larger 2.27-inch rear touch display with touch zoom. Its battery life is 30% better as compared to that of the HERO8 Black. GoPro has likewise designed this new action camera with improved cold-weather performance.

On top of all of these, the HERO9 Black has HyperSmooth 3.0 video stabilization with in-camera horizon leveling. It also carries TimeWarp 3.0 featuring Real Speed and Half Speed and is capable of 1080p Live Streaming and 1080p Webcam mode. It’s also waterproof up to a depth of 33ft or 10m.

The HERO9 Black is also compatible with the All-New Max Lens Mod, which allows Max HyperSmooth video stabilization and low-distortion and ultra-wide Max SuperView at up to 2.7K60 resolution.

Alongside the announcement of the HERO9 Black, GoPro also launched its Million Dollar Challenge. For its third year, it challenges HERO9 Black owners to submit video clips, which may be chosen to be included in the launch highlight reel of GoPro’s new flagship camera. Those whose entries will be chosen will get an equal share of $1,000,000.

Video submissions are open until December 4 through GoPro.com/Awards. The HERO9 Black Million Dollar Challenge video is set to be released in December this year.

The HERO9 Black-compatible Mods, including the Media Mod priced at Php4,790 with a removable foam windscreen and the Display Mod tagged at Php4,790, will arrive in the Philippines in the fourth quarter of 2020. The Light Mode, which sells for Php2,990, is now available at select retailers.

Meanwhile, the HERO9 Black retails for Php26,490, available at Abenson, Camerahaus, Colours Foto, Electroworld, Henry’s Cameras, iBook, Inbox Store, Infomax, Mobilio, TechPro Unlimited, and Timeline, as well as on the Official GoPro Store at Lazada and Shopee Mall.
