Vivo TWS Neo Review; Getting There
Getting There

Following what Apple did, android smartphone brands have started to launch their own true wireless earphones, which are usually marketed and launched alongside new smartphone models. Adding to the growing list of this is vivo, which recently announced its latest offering under the audio department, simply named as the vivo TWS Neo. Read on and find out what we have to say about it.

DESIGN and ERGONOMICS:

One look, and it’s already noticeable how the vivo TWS Neo resembles the Apple Airpods. This comes in two basic colors of Moonlight White and Starry Blue. What we had was the white one, which we liked a lot since it has a classy and sleek design. Its charging case, which has an oval, pebble-like shape, is dressed with a glossy mirror finish, automatically making it a fingerprint magnet.

The vivo TWS Neo might not be enticing to those who’d prefer earphones with rubber ear tips, as the vivo TWS Neo is designed in such a way that it just sits in your ears, just like the Apple Airpods as mentioned earlier. Ergonomics-wise, though, we can say that this is one of the most comfortable pairs of TWS earphones we’ve tried so far, and it helps that it weighs only 4.7 grams. With its secure and ergonomic fit, you can barely feel that you’re wearing it at all.

On its charging case, there’s a physical button in front and situated above the vivo branding, together with tiny indicator light. The vivo TWS Neo is also IP54-rated, meaning it can withstand dust and water splashes.

PERFORMANCE:

vivo boasts that among the many exciting features of the vivo TWS Neo is fast pairing. True enough, connecting it with the smartphone we use is a seamless task, thanks to its stable Bluetooth 5.2 function. This can also be connected to up to two devices.

On the technical side, this comes with 14.2 mm dynamic drivers. vivo also claims that the vivo TWS Neo has a low-latency of 88ms, meaning there's a lesser delay in sound synchronization with what's shown on screen. For this, we find its performance impressive enough when we used the earphones for gaming or just for a Netflix binge-watching session.

An essential feature of the vivo TWS Neo is its Qualcomm aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec support, which enhances both sound quality and connection stability. This is a good addition, especially for smartphone users, which also has the said feature like the ASUS ROG Phone 3, Xiaomi Mi Note 10, One Plus 8 Pro, and others.

As vivo's attempt to further enhance the sound quality of the vivo TWS Neo, they included another interesting feature -- the DeepX Stereo Sound Effects, which has three modes: mega bass, clear voice, and clear high pitch.

Putting all these elements into the test, we played a couple of songs, watched some live performances, and a couple of our favorite movies. Its sound quality sits in the middle, nothing extravagant, so we're not really sure whether all its premium features were maximized. One thing to take note of is this might not be the choice for users looking for bass-heavy sounds. But to be fair, the vivo TWS neo performed really well when used with voice calls, complete with outstanding noise cancellation.

What we also appreciate about the vivo TWS neo is its responsive touch features, which allow access for Google Assistant, music control, and answering phone calls for two taps. Meanwhile, its press and hold feature allowed us to quickly hang-up calls. These touch controls are also customizable, plus it has the Find My TWS Neo function.

BATTERY:

The vivo TWS neo carries 27mAh of battery per earbud, and its charging case promises 400mAh of juice, rechargeable through its USB-C port. We were able to use this for almost five hours, which we must say is decent enough -- and it took us around 2 hours before having it fully charged.

FINAL WORDS:

The vivo TWS Neo is a good choice if you’re not really into bass-heavy music, and you’re looking for something that delivers well in other critical factors, including aesthetics, ergonomics, and clear voice calls.

Since this is vivo's first time in this line business, we can safely say they are getting there. However, with a price tag of PHP4,999, we’re kind of expecting more in terms of the sound quality, especially when it comes to bass production.
