This was announced on the whitepaper entitled "Nokia Phones Lead the Trust Ranking based on Software, Security Updates and Build Quality" released by Counterpart Research, which banked on the mentioned pillars with various weighted criteria considered for a comparative analysis of leading Android smartphone brands.

Counterpart Research VP & Research Director Peter Richardson said that software and security updates for Android smartphones have become even more important, especially now that the coronavirus pandemic made people utilize digital platforms even more, using smartphones.

"With smartphones being devices that are always-on and connected, they are more vulnerable to cyberattacks which are growing both in frequency and severity," Richardson said.
"For the second year in row, Nokia phones have topped our rankings in providing the most comprehensive software and security updates and it has the highest share of porfolio recommended for enterprise use," the executive added.

The whitepaper further detailed that while 98% of Android smartphone brands still offer inconsistent software and security updates, Nokia phones "maintained a competitive advantage."

The said recent study by Counterpart Research also recognized Nokia for its consistent monthly security patch updated where the smartphone brand garnered a 100% rating, scoring the top spot next to OnePlus (90%) and Samsung (22%).

In terms of build quality pillar, Counterpart Research said that this was determined based on product robustness, force measurement, drop and impact, fatigue, wear and scratch, thermal tests, moisture and liquid tests, and other qualitative and quantitative observations.

Nokia smartphones, which have been known for their durability, will "last the test of time" alongside "faster software and security updates," Counterpart Research said.

"We found that Nokia phones undergo tougher tests than the industry average. Nokia phones will last the test of time which is increasingly important at a time when global device replacement cycles are getting longer, now approaching 30 months," the research firm noted.
