DITO Telecommunity, the country's third-largest telecommunications provider, declared during a virtual press conference on March 8 that its first act as a commercially launched telecom would be to provide free DITO service to 3,000 front-line staff from the Visayas and Mindanao in appreciation of their contributions to the country's recovery from the global pandemic. The DITO has started implementing this initiative with 300 front-line staff from Davao City.

“We are proud to announce that the first two front liners, a nurse and a public school teacher in Davao City, have already received their free DITO-compatible cell phones as well as free DITO mobile and internet service,” said Atty. Adel Tamano, DITO's Chief Administrative Officer.

Miss Daisylen Apostol, a nurse's assistant assigned to care for COVID-19 patients at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City, and Miss Mae Ann Jean Justol, a Grade 1 teacher at the Alfredo A. Aledia Elementary School in Davao City, were visited by the DITO CSR and Trade Marketing team on March 19, 2021.

“I am ecstatic to have been selected as one of the DITO project's first front-line recipients. Ito ay malaking tulong sa akin para mabilis akong makasagot ng mga pasyente ko sa mga calls at messages. “I'm always looking for ways to improve my service to the patients in my care, especially COVID-19 patients,” Nurse Daisylen said.

She also stated that as a nurse's aide, she intends to continue her education, especially online, to become a full-fledged nurse in the future.

Nurse Daisylen concluded, "When the pandemic hit, it became more important for me to have a good and secure na internet connection so I could do online studies and study and attend our daily meetings."
“This is truly a blessing,” Mae said, “especially now that we all have to deal with the changes brought about by the pandemic.” I'm happy that I can continue to teach and perform research without fear of being disconnected. I also don't have to travel as far to reach an internet signal. Ay daghang salamat DITO for this, and may the force be with you!”
“From the beginning, even before the first ever bid documents were opened and made public, the mandate of providing better and more affordable services has stood as the cornerstone of DITO Telecommunity,” the DITO Chief Administrative Officer reminded all. We are optimistic that we will fulfill our mission and our commitment to the Filipino people as we continue to broaden our coverage and provide services, especially to the front lines.”
