Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has been selected for the Special Prime Minister Award and honored as “Digital International Corporation of the Year.” The award honors Huawei Thailand for its valuable service and excellent contributions to Thai society since its establishment in the country 21 years ago and its efforts to support digital transformation. Huawei is the first foreign corporation to win this distinction.

Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., accepted the award from HE General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, in the presence of Mr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), during the award ceremony held at Government House.

The Prime Minister thanked this year’s awardees. He commended the younger generation for applying emerging technologies creatively and using creativity to build new companies to leap forward together. He also added that the government believes the implementation of 5G and AI networks is critical in moving Thailand forward and expressed hope that today's progress will encourage university students to use digital technologies to generate market opportunities for the country in the future. The prime minister congratulated Huawei executives and asked them to continue the company’s project to move Thailand forward.

“The PM’s Digital Awards recognize organizations whose products and solutions help drive digital technology and innovation development. The qualifications for the PM’s Special Award include excellence in implementation of digital technology that benefits industries, utilities, and the population; implementation of digital technology that fosters a stronger and more stable economy, infrastructure, and community for Thais; investment that generates employment in Thailand; and social and environmental innovations that benefit local and foreign economies. Huawei received the best scores from our distinguished committee,” said Mr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President of Digital Economy Promotion Agency.
“Our collaboration with Huawei has been central to the country’s development, and crucial in terms of the technology used for emergency responses to unforeseen events such as natural disasters, security threats, health crises, and others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization immediately deployed the world’s leading technologies dubbed AI-assisted solutions and 5G technology to benefit the country’s medical working teams at government hospitals. Recently, Thailand’s first 5G Ecosystem Innovation Centre (5G EIC) was opened at DEPA’s office, thanks to a partnership between the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), and Huawei. Our relationship with Huawei and our willingness to use 5G technologies offer us an advantage in improving our market competitiveness. I would like to compliment the corporation on this accomplishment. We are grateful for Huawei’s goodwill and persistent efforts to help push the digital economy in the country,” he added.

This year’s award is another acknowledgment of Huawei’s leadership in Thailand’s digital scene. The company’s active projects around the world include:

For digital economy:

• Open Lab Bangkok: One-stop support to provide enterprise solutions for IoT, Big Data, and cloud computing, as well as a verification portal and ICT training programs for consumers and ICT industry startups in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
• 5G EEC Testbed: Developed the first 5G Test Bed in a real world-setting in Southeast Asia located in Kasetsart University, Sri Racha campus (Eastern Economic Corridor) (Eastern Economic Corridor).
• Thailand 5G Ecosystem Innovation Center: Jointly founded by Digital Economy Promotion Agency and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the center acts as a laboratory for SMEs, entrepreneurs, developers, and educational institutions to create digital technologies for 5G apps and services, incubate local digital talents and update digital skills.

For social advancement:

• AI-assisted solutions for government hospitals: AI-powered applications given to Ramathibodi and Siriraj Hospitals help make COVID-19 diagnostic solutions quicker and more effective using 5G technology.
• Huawei Telemedicine Video Conference Solution for the Ministry of Public Health: Real-time and fully-functional teleconference system that can enable Thai medical personnel and teams to carry out their duties without fear of infection; doctors can hold remote online consultations; patients can be diagnosed, treated, and tracked from their own smart devices.
• Unmanned vehicles utilize 5G: Contactless distribution of medical goods inside the hospital to reduce contamination threats to frontline staff.

For human resource development:

• Huawei ASEAN Academy: Partnering with local companies and technical and engineering schools to “produce 100,000 digital and tech-related workers within 5 years.”
• 5G courses by global experts and chief scientists from Huawei: Topics such as 5G developments, commercial strategies, 5G requirements, usage cases, business model concepts, etc. to foster multi-dimensional thought

Huawei announced that further programs would be organized later this year to help Thailand improve its 5G ecosystem. In collaboration with DEPA, Huawei will host the 5G Forum, 5G Business Alliance, and 5G Hackathon to incubate local tech talents. The two parties will also issue a 5G Whitepaper to better lead the industry into the next-generation economy.
