UNBOXING AND INSTALLATION:

The BarraCuda 510 500GB M.2 SSD packaging comes in the familiar Seagate-themed design with green and black colors. There's also an illustration of a creature -- a Seagate trademark -- next to the picture of the SSD. Other details found on the packaging are the memory capacity of the SSD, the model name, and of course, Seagate's emblem.

Inside the box are the Seagate BarraCuda 510 500GB M.2 SSD and its warranty information. Here's a tip: remember to only buy authentic Seagate products, or otherwise, you cannot avail of the warranty service. Among the useful features that come with the BarraCuda 510 500GB M.2 SSD is the Seagate SeaTools which basically takes the job of looking after the overall health of drives while at the same time ensuring the data safety of users. It's available for free download from the Seagate website and can be easily installed on Mac and Windows laptops and PCs.

The Seagate SeaTools software is intuitive, and even those exploring SSDs for the first time can hardly get lost roaming around this software. Among the things that we could do using this were updating software, cloning the drive, and carrying out a secure-erase. This feature also runs diagnostics and alerts users in case there's something wrong with the SSDs.

The Seagate BarraCuda 510 M.2 SSD comes in storage capacities of 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. This offering is ideal for consumers looking to enhance the efficiency and upgrade the speeds of ultra-thin laptops, desktop PCs, and other types of workstations. It has an M.2 2280 single-sided form factor with a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface.

Seagate claims that the Seagate BarraCuda 510 M.2 SSD has a max sequential read of 3,400 MB/s and max sequential write of 2,180 MB/s. In ATTO benchmark, it proves that it has enough speed to easily transfer large files. When it comes to smaller files, it is superior when compared to the likes of Intel SSD 760 and WD Blue SN500; however, it is lower than the Samsung 970 EVO Plus and slightly below the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro.

Meanwhile, in the CrystalDiskMark benchmark, there's very little difference with the results compared to 970 EVO Plus and XPG SX8200 Pro. Still, it performs better than Intel's and WD's offering mentioned above.
