While this transformation may be beneficial to the economy, it has also increased cybercrime.

In the Philippines, there was an alarming 37.3 percent increase in online scams during a 6-month period in 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. In addition, according to Interpol's "Asean Cyberthreat Assessment 2021," identity theft has increased by 21.47 percent.

In 2019, the National Capital Region alone saw about 2.7 million victims of fraudulent SMS or text scams, according to the Statista Research Department.

Furthermore, a Kaspersky study from 2020 found that over 7000 Philippine organizations were targeted by ransomware attacks that year. When an attacker installs software on a victim's computer that encrypts their files, the attacker then demands a ransom from the victim to recover access to the contents. According to Kaspersky, 44.4 million web threats were detected in the Philippines in 2020, up 59 percent from the previous year, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity.

To compound these problems, according to ISCsquared's research, there is a global shortage of cybersecurity workers, with 66% of cybersecurity positions vacant in the Asia Pacific alone.

The Philippine Coding Camp is conducting a masterclass on Ethical Hacking 101 in conjunction with cybersecurity heavyweight Secuna to address the growing need for competent local labor in the cybersecurity area.

Ethical Hacking 101 will teach students about online application vulnerability assessment and penetration testing on November 12-13, 2021. As a result, they will be better prepared to conduct a successful penetration testing engagement.

Penetration testers find security holes before cybercriminals do. Secuna also helps strengthen cybersecurity by offering a variety of pricing options for businesses of all sizes, ensuring that you get the protection and security that best fits your budget and needs.

Those who complete the program will be able to contribute to the integrity of cyberspace and fill the many cybersecurity employment openings both locally and internationally.
