When the first breeds of true wireless earphones arrived in the market sometime in 2015, they cost bucks. Thankfully, some audio device manufacturers could find a way to develop budget-friendly pairs decent enough in terms of audio quality – most of which are popular brands. Among those relatively away from the spotlight but still offer audio peripherals packed with features is China-based EarFun.
EarFun Free 2 Review; Good Budget, Good Bass |
Does the brand live up to its name and bring out the fun in listening? Let's take a look at one of their items offerings -- the EarFun Free 2.
DESIGN and BUILD
We've tried quite a handful of true wireless earphones in the past and discovered how annoying it is when a pair of tiny earbuds don't fit seamlessly to your ears and lack enough ergonomics. So for this matter, we're giving a brownie point to EarFun Free 2 buds because despite it being a budget pair, it ticks the right boxes when it comes to comfortability.
Design |
The pair comes in a shape that's common in tiny true wireless earphones, which isn't exactly a bad thing. We don't mind it not having a unique and eye-catching design as long as it sits securely to our ears, even during workouts. And although predominantly made of plastic, the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds look posh in an all-black finish with smooth cuts. Plus, they're IPX7-rated, which means they can withstand dust and sweat.
Another thing we appreciate about the build of the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds is their responsive touch control-enabled buttons. This kind doesn't require too much pressure to initiate their respective functions. Light taps are enough to perform playback, adjust volumes, summon a voice assistant, and activate the low-latency mode. Again, this pair is cheaper than most TWS options, so this factor is a good addition.
Retail Package |
Outside the box, the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds come with three pairs of rubber ear tips in different sizes, a USB-C cable, and a user manual. The earbuds are housed in a compact charging case with a semi-matte finish and the Earfun logo on its top part.
PERFORMANCE
Connecting the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds to any Bluetooth-enabled device is a walk in the park, and switching from listening from a smartphone to a laptop is done in an instant. The Bluetooth 5.2 connection of this pair is also strong and steady that even when we moved at least 10 meters away from our music source, hiccups are nowhere to be heard.
The EarFun Free 2 Earbuds deliver what's expected from them as a budget pair in terms of audio quality. Although it's not that impressive in terms of soundstage, you'd enjoy its energetic tunes and boosted bass, especially if you're a casual listener. Mids and highs are also well represented in this pair.
If you're an Adele fan, you will get your money's worth with the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds. The pair shines in delivering power vocals without discounting the emotions brought about by the background instruments. Tracks like "My Sharona" and "Hotel California" with rich instruments are also a delight to hear through the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds as we were able to distinguish the guitars and drums, with the tracks sounding whole at the same time.
All in all, the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds bring an enjoyable listening experience, but not the kind that blows you away. Just like what we mentioned earlier, this is a pair for casual listeners and not precisely for audiophiles.
If you're a self-confessed Netflix addict, you'd also like this pair from EarFun. The Free 2 Earbuds carry a low latency feature, and it does an excellent job in delivering little to no delays between signal transmission and hearing the sound. This is also beneficial in gaming, as you can appreciate game audio in real-time.
Active noise cancellation isn't present in the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds, but this isn't a caveat, especially with its price. Meanwhile, microphone call quality is another strong suit for this pair as it can convey clear audio and pick up good volume.
BATTERY LIFE
The EarFun Free 2 Earbuds can keep up with your habitual listening, even if it takes long hours. This pair can last up to 7 hours of playback plus 23 hours of juice from its charging case. Refueling the earbuds from 10% of battery life takes more than an hour before they get back to 100% again. Wireless charging is also possible with this pair via Qi-compatible chargers.
CONCLUSION
After using the EarFun Free 2 Earbuds for a few days, we're convinced that this pair deserves to top our best budget true wireless earbuds list. So, if you're currently on the lookout for a well-performing pair that doesn't hurt the pocket, get yourself an EarFun Free 2 Earbuds, and thank us later!
