With French brand WIKO now in the picture, Filipinos are given yet another option for an affordable yet very capable smartphone - the WIKO T50. Read on and get to know why this newbie is worth your attention.

DISPLAY and BUILD:

First up – let's highlight the screen of the WIKO T50. This smartphone flaunts a 6.6-inch FHD+ IPS panel despite its budget price tag. The WIKO T50 has an aspect ratio of 20:9, which means it's tall and comes with a 60Hz refresh rate for that smooth scroll. Smartphones under the same price range as the WIKO T50 often have thick bezels, but the WIKO T50 is almost all-screen, save from its prominent chin and a punch-hole detail for its 16-megapixel front camera.

On its rear, the WIKO T50 covers up with a glossy plastic back. Its glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet, though you can always use its free case to shield the device from smudges. The design of the back part of the WIKO T50 is pretty neat. A WIKO branding is etched on the middle part, while the smartphone's three vertically aligned cameras and an LED flash are on the upper left.

The WIKO T50 has the standard ports and buttons. There's a volume rocker and a power button/fingerprint scanner on the right side, a headphone jack on the upper part, a SIM card tray slot for two nano SIM cards, a microphone, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker grille at the bottom. Take note that this smartphone doesn't have a dedicated slot for microSD, meaning you can't expand its onboard storage through hardware support.

All buttons are tactile and responsive, including its fingerprint scanner that unlocks the device in a matter of seconds.

Going back to its screen – the WIKO T50 delivers a delightful viewing experience with its decent display. Its visuals are visible enough even when used under direct sunlight. With a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution, the WIKO T50 should be more than enough for casual binge-watchers and gamers. This smartphone also has a relatively impressive down-firing speaker that brings just the right sound with a punch of bass.

Overall, the WIKO T50 can easily pass off as an overall beautiful smartphone. It's light and easy to hold and feels good in the hand.

PERFORMANCE and BATTERY LIFE:

Inside the WIKO T50 is a 12nm MediaTek Helio 895 processor, a system-on-chip (SoC) primarily designed with gaming enhancements. With that said, the WIKO T50 easily classifies as a lower mid-range gaming device. True enough, when we tried playing popular mobile games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty Mobile, and PUBG Mobile, the WIKO T50 didn't falter, and we never experienced any hiccups.

This was also the same case when we used the device for a few days as our main driver. The WIKO T50 handled multitasking and switching between multiple apps well – all thanks to its generous 6GB RAM and ample 128GB storage.

Out of the box, the WIKO T50 runs on an Android 11 OS, which we expect to be updated to the latest version soon. Its stock Android OS surprisingly has lesser bloatware, unlike other smartphones with many-installed apps.

Here are the WIKO T50 benchmark results for reference.

Another plus for this smartphone is it supports 40-watt charging through a USB-C port, which equates to a 10-minute charge to a 25 percent battery life. With the WIKO T50, you don't have to wait for a full hour to get the battery recharged to a hundred percent again.

CAMERA:

The WIKO T50 joins the bandwagon of mid-range devices with a triple camera setup. WIKO T50's are a 64-megapixel primary lens, 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter, and 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, you get a 16-megapixel camera.

As expected from a camera range that can capture images up to 64MP in quality, the WIKO T50 takes photographs with competitive quality. Its strength is daylight shooting, producing photos that need no edits. Its macro lens also does a good job, giving images with a soft and natural-looking background blur.

Night-time and indoor photography with the WIKO T50 is pretty good, too. This device can capture images at night with just the right amount of detail clarity and not too much of a haze. Selfies are decent, too, both when taken during the day or at night. WIKO T50's 16-megapixel front camera also comes with an AI Beauty mode that enhances self-portraits with a smooth blur effect.
