Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Review; Never Floppin', Just Flippin' Awesome
Samsung is dutifully owning and slaying its flip smartphones era. The fact that at least one of the people you see when you're out and about nowadays is holding a Samsung Flip smartphone is just one of the many strong pieces of evidence of this.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Review; Never Floppin', Just Flippin' Awesome |
We got to try one of its offerings under this segment, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. Here are our thoughts about this clever piece of innovation.
Still the same stunning AMOLED screen – plus, it folds!
Perhaps one of the things that loyal Samsung smartphone users love about the brand and its handsets is its trademark AMOLED screen which is definitely among the best in the market. With the Flip4, Samsung was able to maintain its gorgeous slate of display while at the same time addressing what most people were concerned about – the crease.
Display Crease |
Yes, the part of the display where the smartphone folds is arguably still visible. Still, it's never a disturbance to the overall smartphone experience, given how beautiful and high-quality the Flip4's display is.
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 boasts a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex Internal Display with a 120hz adaptive refresh rate. The screen brings out clear and colorful details, which make binge-watching, gaming, and even casual scrolling a delightful experience.

When laid flat, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 offers an almost infinity-like screen, save from a punch hole cutout that conceals its 10-megapixel selfie camera. The bezels around the display are slim enough to our liking, giving the smartphone more space for the screen itself.
In case you're worried about the durability of the screen, Samsung said that the Galaxy Flip4 is tested to last more than 200,000 folds.

And since this is a folding smartphone we're talking about – there's another screen to take note of. The external display of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is only 1.9 inches in size, enough to serve as a mirror for your selfies, display your lock screen, and show your important notifications. The best thing about it is that it's also AMOLED, meaning you have a piece of one of Samsung's best smartphone features right there on a small slate.
Dainty body, durable design
If you're looking to jump on the bandwagon of foldable smartphones but don't really want a bulky device like the Galaxy Fold series, then the Flip is for you. The Galaxy Flip4, in particular, is honest-to-goodness light and handy – folded or not – with its body that weighs only 187 grams.
Hinge |
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is undeniably a pretty piece of technology with its slimmer hinge, glossy metal frames, and slim profile. What added volume to its eye-catching aesthetics is the selection of cute colors. There's the 'Bora Purple' in a violet hue that's a nod to its global ambassadors – international Korean pop group sensation BTS, graphite, pink gold, and blue. This iteration of the Flip also comes dressed in a matte finish which is personally better for us as it automatically blocks smudges and fingerprint magnets.
However, the moving parts, specifically the hinges, catches lint and dirt every now and then. And to be honest, it is pretty hard to clean without the proper cleaning equipment. So, if it bothers you, we highly recommend getting suitable cleaning materials.
Secondary Display |
Its smaller secondary screen is slated on a black panel. This part also carries its two main cameras and an LED flash. What we also liked about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is its neat surrounding frame. It only has two buttons on its upper right cheek – one set for the volume rockers and another for the power button. At the bottom lies its USB-C charging port.
Graphite Colorway |
Samsung has never been one to sacrifice strength for style. It made the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 water-resistant at up to 1.5 meters within 30 minutes. On top of this, the smartphone comes planted with an exclusive Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, and its hinge is covered by Samsung's toughest aluminum frame, Armor Aluminum.
Never run out of power – figuratively and literally
Under the slim and sleek body of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is an impressive set of internals, top-billed by the powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm's most excellent chipset yet. As expected from one of Samsung's flagship lines, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 delivers in all aspects – multitasking, switching between demanding apps, gaming, streaming – name it, and this smartphone knows how to do its job properly.
Clamshell Design |
Samsung even smartly designed some of the UI of the Flip4 according to its clamshell design. These benefits users who primarily utilize their smartphones for work and productivity. For instance, when you use the Flip4 for video calls in clamshell mode, the upper part of the screen shows the people in the call while the lower part conveniently has the control buttons.
For the Flip4, Samsung added a new option for storage – an online-exclusive 512GB, plus 128GB and 256GB. This is combined with 8GB RAM. This smartphone doesn't support storage expansion via a microSD card.
On the Cover Screen or the secondary display of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, you can perform easy actions like making calls or answering text messages, and even customize it with videos and moving wallpapers as the screen saver.
Out of the box, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with a bit of bloatware. Pre-installed apps include Samsung's native apps like Samsung Members, Samsung Free, Samsung Global Goals, and others which you can just easily uninstall.
Samsung Galaxy A12 Review; Hit and Miss
In terms of battery, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has 3,700mAh juice. This is smaller in capacity as compared to conventional smartphones, but it's quite understandable since, given its flip form, there's only a limited space to put a slim battery. However, what it lacked in terms of battery size, Samsung more than made up for when it comes to its Super Fast Charging feature. It can refuel the device to below 5% to 50% in as fast as 30 minutes – a decent waiting time for charging.
Cameras that will make you say 'flip!' 'cheese!'
Samsung smartphones have always been camera-centric. Even the brand's entry-level segment has their cameras as one of their strongest suits. With the Galaxy Flip 4, you can enjoy taking photos and videos with its dual main cameras consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 12-megapixel wide shooter.
12MP Dual Rear Cameras |
Image quality is impressive as ever. Shots taken during daytime have the right amount of clarity and color pop in them, while night photos are undeniably no-edits-needed. More than its imaging performance, what makes mobile photography and videography fun with the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 lies in its form factor.
When in clamshell mode, the Flip4 makes it easy to take group photos even without a tripod or a monopod. In taking videos, it's similar to how you'd hold an old-school video camera.
The cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 have autofocus, optical image stabilization (OIS), up to 10x digital zoom, a video recording resolution of up to UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 60fps, and slow motion at 960fps HD and 240fps FHD.
