Synology introduces the RT6600ax Wi-Fi 6 router; releases substantial updates to the SRM OS.

Synology announces the release of the RT6600ax, a high-speed and security-focused router designed to provide fast and secure access to homes and companies. With the new Synology Router Manager (SRM) 1.3, the RT6600ax is fully equipped to face the problems of current network environments, such as the tremendous increase in connected devices and the subsequent need to safeguard users from ever-increasing security threats.

Designed for durability and performance

The RT6600ax, Synology's first Wi-Fi 6-certified router, provides more reliable Wi-Fi through improved data encoding, beamforming, scheduling, and signal isolation. A 2.5GbE port that may be configured for WAN or LAN deployment allows customers to take advantage of Multi-Gig internet connections, high-performance devices such as NAS, and high-speed wireless backhaul. A quad-core 1.8 GHz processor ensures fast connection rates and responsive operation even when numerous devices are connected, and all capabilities are active.

Tri-band technology, along with Smart Connect, optimizes device dispersion and eliminates data transmission bottlenecks. Compatibility with the newly licensed 5.9 GHz spectrum enables non-DFS channels at 80 and 160 MHz for a total wireless throughput of 6.6 Gbps, larger concurrent connections, and quicker VPN server performance.

Creating a solid network foundation

The RT6600ax is powered by SRM 1.3, the most recent version of Synology's user-friendly router operating system. SRM 1.3 fulfills the demands for improved security and more flexibility in today's network environments with updates and new functionalities that considerably expand network management capabilities.

The ability to create up to five separate networks, each with the ability to map up to three Wi-Fi SSIDs, makes it simple to strengthen security when managing multi-purpose network environments. One-way firewall rules can be configured independently for each network to limit connectivity to and from less secure devices like IoT equipment, while support for the 802.1q standard simplifies integration into existing networks in a router, AP, and mesh configurations.

Comprehensive internet tools are on the way.

The current version adds SRM's suite of web filtering, traffic control, and remote access tools to the new generation of Synology routers.

Secure Access

Per-user profiles can be established to limit the online time or block browsing when certain circumstances are satisfied. Devices assigned to the same profile will have the same set of internet access rules, eliminating the need for repetitive manual configuration. Network-specific profiles are also available for devices that do not belong to any user but still require internet access restriction and auditing (e.g., guest or new devices).

Limiting internet usage time (either on a schedule or according to a quota-based system), filtering out entire categories of websites or specific domains through allow/block lists, and restricting inappropriate search results with safe search options for YouTube, Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo are all parental control features. Network-wide threat blocking via the DNS & IP Threat Intelligence Database, as well as support for Google Safe Browsing, improve security.

Traffic Management

When special demands occur, available bandwidth can be allocated among linked devices, prioritizing a single client or application. Granular auditing is supported by real-time and historical data, with traffic reports generated automatically or on demand and easily shared in CSV or HTML formats.

VPN Extra

SRM's suite of remote connectivity tools can be used by remote workers and hybrid teams to access intranet-only websites directly from their browser (WebVPN), establish high-performance connections with a dedicated client over various protocols (SSL VPN), bridge multiple locations for simple resource sharing across different networks (Site-to-Site VPN), and enable remote operation of devices compatible with the RDP/VNC standard (Remote Desktop).

Enhanced mobile management

SRM's companion mobile app, DS router, has been updated to provide a better network administration experience while on the road. The 2.0 edition delivers to the smartphone formerly SRM-exclusive features such as creating new wireless networks, configuring web filtering and parental control, configuring traffic management schemes, and many more.

Availability

The RT6600ax is now available through Synology partners and resellers.
