|Cherry Mobile Alpha Play Hands-on, Affordable 8-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet|
Last September 9, during the WOW event, Cherry Mobile announced several Windows devices, along with the Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones (Alpha Luxe and Alpha Style) they also unveiled the full-pledged Windows 8.1 tablet - the Alpha Play.
The Alpha Play sports an 8-inch IPS high-definition touchscreen display driven by 7th Gen Intel HD Graphics and powered by a 1.33GHz quad core Intel Z3735D processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The internal storage is only 16GB, but there is a micro SD slot capable of handling capacity of up to 64GB.
The front is vastly occupied by the 8-inch HD screen, when you hold it on portray mode, the part above the screen holds the 2MP secondary camera while the rest of bezels have nothing on them. The bezels are quite thick, especially when you compare it to Android tablets, but pretty much on the same level when compared to Windows tablets.
The back has a brushed finish, the loudspeaker grilles are located in the upper portion while the 5MP main camera is placed in between them. The Windows logo can be found at the center while the cherry mobile marking along with the tablet's serial number are located at the bottom part.
The top has nothing on it while the bottom is very crowded holding all sorts of ports, here you can find the microphone, power port, 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI port, USB 3.0 port and the micro SD slot.
The hardware control buttons are located at the right side while there is none on the left side.
The Cherry Mobile Play is the company's answer to deliver its commitment to provide affordable and smarter mobile experience to Filipino consumers. In my honest opinion, Cherry Mobile truly delivers, a Windows 8.1 tablet for a very pocket-friendly price of just Php7,999. Not only that, it also comes with a FREE one-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365 Personal plus 1TB of cloud storage via OneDrive, making it more efficient on both work and play.
