Smart, through its value brand Talk 'N Text, recently conducted its “Tropang Ready Disaster Preparedness Caravan,” which aims to train the youth on disaster readiness.

Batangas State University (BatSU) was the first-ever venue of the program, wherein the teacher education students are educated and trained on the items they need to prepare and the things they need to do when the calamity strikes.

After a few months, the first trainees from BatSU have  successfully led their own disaster preparedness and resilience training in their community, particularly for the parents of their Pantawid Pamilya Program scholars.

PLDT and Smart addressed that the country could strengthen the preparedness of youths by simply educating them, and making technology and communication tools available to them, and the BatSU program is a living proof of that.

“It is said that the youth are the members of the society who are most vulnerable to calamities. But here at Smart, we believe in capability of the youth to mobilize their communities in time of emergencies, through their knowledge of the latest technology,” Ramon Isberto, PLDT and Smart Public Affairs Group Head, said.

The Smart’s program had been to the following universities, two - Bulacan State University, Eastern Visayas State University, Southern Leyte State University, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines-Cagayan de Oro, University of Baguio, and Isabela State University.

With this, the caravan has been nominated as Best Engagement Campaign of the Year at the Responsible Business Awards by Ethical Corporation, a UK-based firm that help businesses around the globe.
