Our team recently reviewed the Kata M4s, which left us with a better impression compared to other Kata smartphones that we’ve tried. While our team gave the M4s two thumbs up, we will now shift our attention to the L1 – the brand’s latest phablet.

Kata Philippines has launched its latest smartphone – the L1 – that boasts a huge display and battery capacity. Big enough at 167.5mm x 83.9mm x 8.5mm, you’d expect that this device can deliver your entertainment and multimedia needs. However, while it has big display, it’s quite disappointing that it only has 1GB of RAM – giving us what to expect and not.

Nevertheless, here’s our initial impression! But first, you can check our unboxing video here.

PHYSICAL:

Considering its price, you’d be impressed with its look. Housed in a metal casing, it features a 6-inch IPS HD capacitive touchscreen that has 1280 x 720 resolution, and is protected by 2.5D curved glass. It has a thick bezel, too. Our initial finding with its display is good, however, we felt like its screen reacts slowly when we navigate it.

Flip the device on its back and you’d appreciate its premium-looking design that is usually seen on smartphone giants like Samsung. It also flaunts a curve at the back, which helps us in holding the device.

With its size, one-hand usage isn’t good. The smartphone is heavy, as well, which means solid grip is needed.

FOR NOW:

The Kata L1 appears to be a good smartphone. We must say that it has good offerings, including its huge display, big 3500mAh battery capacity, decent 13-megapixel main camera and 8-megapixel front shooter. However, we’re bit confused if it could really give us a great entertainment experience as promised, knowing that it is only packed with 1GB of RAM. Also, it runs on dated Android Marshmallow.

Meanwhile, it can be yours for PhP4,999.

We’ll post our full review soon, and let's see if it's a hit-or-miss phablet!
