The SK8 is a full pledged tablet with phone functionality from SKK Mobile. It packs an 8-inch screen powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.

HARDWARE:

Front

The front houses the 8-inch screen of the SK 8, the bezels are dominantly larger on all sides. There is an earpiece above the display which seems unusable since it is hard to place the tablet in your head when you are on a call. The VGA secondary camera is just beside the earpiece.

Back

The back is made of plastic and it is not completely flat, the edges are so steep that there are almost no sides left except the metal lining. The camera can be found beside the loudspeaker grill, the SK8 mark in the center while the logo, NTC approval and IMIE sticker are at the lower part.

Bottom and Top

The top has nothing on it while the bottom holds the 3.5mm audio jack, the microphone pin hole and the micro USB port.

Left and Right Sides

The right side has the power key and the volume rocker while there is none on the left side.

SIM and Micro SD Slots

At the lower portion of the right side you will find the SIM and the micro SD slots hidden underneath the plastic lid.


DISPLAY:

The SK8 display has a resolution of 1024x768, supports 5-point multi-touch and has wide viewing angles. The resolution is good enough for viewing the content of a webpage or an e-book without stressing your eyes (without zooming).

SENSORS:

Sensors

The tablet shows variety of a sensors, but only the accelerometer and the sound sensors are confirmed working.


BENCHMARKS:

The SK8 is powered by MediaTek MT6577 which has a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz each, the graphics processing is handled by the PowerVR SGX531 coupled with 512MB of RAM. This is basically the same chipset found on the SKK Mobile Titanium we reviewed a few months ago.

Antutu, 7713

The Antutu score of 7713 is typical for a device with this type of chipset.

Quadrant, 2737

It scored 2737 in Quadrant which is to be expected, the SKK Radiance that we also reviewed employs the same chipset and has almost the same score. The refresh rate is 55.04 Hertz which is a good thing.

NenaMark2, 19.6fps

The best score it got from NenaMark2 is only 19.6fps which is a bit too low for the current standards.

Vellamo, HTML 1018 & Metal 357

The Vellamo scores are also low, 1018 for HTML 5 and 357 for Metal.


INITIAL VERDICT:

The SK8 tablet is good for those who want to carry a 2-in-1 device, a tablet and a phone it one. However, if you are planning to use it as a phone I would recommend you have a Bluetooth headset (or at least always bring the supplied wired headset) since the tablet is too wide to hold in just one hand for you to answer a call.
