Cherry Mobile Infinix Pure XL Review, Wholesome Giant |
INTRODUCTION:
During the Cherry Mobile's dealers night, the local mobile brand surprised us by giving each one us their upcoming octa core smartphones, some got the Infinix Pure and we got its bigger sibling, the Infinix Pure XL.
CPU-Z Info |
This new CM phablet sports a huge 5-inch IPS HD screen powered by MediaTek MT6592M processor with 8 CPU cores clocked at 1.4GHz each. It also has 1GB of RAM for multitasking and 8GB of ROM for saving apps and files.
UNBOXING:
Unboxing Video
Retail Package |
The retail package includes the unit itself, battery, charger, USB cable, headset and paper documents. There is no info in the box if it has a scratch-resistant glass, so we recommend installing a screen protector.
HARDWARE:
Front |
Back |
At the front, you will find the usual capacitive keys below the display while the secondary camera and hidden sensors are located above the screen. Meanwhile, the back holds the main camera at the upper part followed by a single LED flash directly below it while the Cherry Mobile marking is placed slightly above the loudspeaker grill.
Back without cover |
Removing the back cover will reveal the 2600mAh battery, micro SIM slot, regular SIM slot and the micro SD slot.
Top |
Bottom |
The micro USB port and the 3.5mm audio jack are both located at the top of the device while there is none at the bottom.
Left |
Right |
The left side houses the volume rocker while the power button is located at the right side.
The Pure XL is a sturdy rectangular device with curve top and bottom with an added metallic accent on all sides. It also has a curve back cover that helps for a better handling, especially for a device of this sheer size.
DISPLAY:
5-point touch |
The Pure XL has a huge 5.5-inch screen with IPS technology for better viewing, HD resolution for clearer display and support up to 5 fingers.
SENSORS:
Sensors |
The basic sensors, namely accelerometer, proximity and light are all present on this device. All of them are functioning properly during app simulation and in actual use.
BENCHMARKS:
Antutu - 27,443 |
Quadrant - 12, 164 |
Vellamo, Browser - 2,055; Multicore - 1,321; Metal - 775 |
NenaMark2 - 57.4 |
The Pure XL is the second device we reviewed with 1.4GHz octa core processor, the first one is also from Cherry Mobile, the Cosmos One. Actually, both devices have almost identical internals, but the XL scores a bit higher than the One.
INTERFACE:
About Phone |

OOBE |
Quck Start Guide |
Interface |
This Infinix device runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS, the interface is similar to the stock UI with some third-party applications pre-installed. Upon first boot, it will prompt you to complete the e-Warranty registration, set-up your device and walk you through the basic navigation of your phone.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Basic Functions |
All the basic phone functions are working fine, no issue or problem encountered during the length of the review period.
TouchPal X |
Like most Cherry Mobile devices, it also has TouchPal X factory installed. It is the default input method across all apps and interface.
MULTIMEDIA:
Gallery:
Gallery |
The photos and videos are filed under the gallery and can be organized by album, time or location. Under its settings you will find a basic photo editor for your picture and a trimming tool for your video. Meanwhile, in the app drawer there is also Movie Studio for creating and editing videos.
Video Player, Music Player and FM Radio:
Video Player, Music Player and FM Radio |
The video player is the generic Android app, it supports different file types and can play videos with up to 1080p resolution. Watching on its massive screen is clear and enjoyable plus the loudspeaker is powerful too. Meanwhile, the music app is the Google Play Music, the stock Android music player is nowhere to be seen. On the other hand, the FM radio will only function when there is a wired headset connected.

Camera and Video:
Camera and Video |
The camera and video share the same interface, it is a stock Android UI that is common on locally branded Android devices. The interface is very straightforward, just select the shooting mode you want at the upper part of the UI then press left shutter key for video and the right shutter key for the photo.
Sample Shots:
Day |
Night without flash |
Night with flash |
Night HDR |
The main camera can shoot up to 13MP photo, the resulting images are good, but not stunning. In comparison, the images produced by Cosmos One are slightly better, especially the amount of resolved details.
Sample Video:
1080p
720p
The phone can capture video up to 1080p resolution at 30fps, the quality is one best we have seen, it is smooth without noticeable skipped frame.
Browser:
Browser |
The browser is a stock Android app, it renders web pages quickly and has several useful features such as multiple tabs and desktop mode, what is missing is incognito mode.
Gaming:
Dead Trigger 2 |
Asphalt 7 |
Heroes of Order & Chaos |
The casual games are no match to the graphics and processing prowess of the Pure XL. On the other hand, HD games also run smoothly, especially when you close/end other applications before start playing. If you do not perform this routine, there will be times that the phone will experience hiccups, but only in a very minimal basis.
Storage |
It has 8GB of internal storage wherein 5.94GB is available to the user, the good thing here is that it has unified storage. Also, if you are going to use an SD card, it will become the default storage location of the phone.

The usual productivity tools are there, calculator, calendar, clock, file explorer, sound recorder and to do. There is no document viewer/editor, but you can simply download your favorite app in the Play Store.
GPS:
GPS |
When A-GPS data is pre-loaded, the phone able to get a satellite lock in almost an instant with an average accuracy of 11 feet. Please take note that this test was done inside the car along an open highway.
BATTERY STATS:
Battery Stats |
During standby mode, it only consumed 6% of its battery in almost 19 hours. Meanwhile, in video playback test, it is able to last 6 hours and 40 minutes before the battery percentage dropped to 15%.
OTHERS:
Cherry Mobile Apps |
The Cherry Mobile apps installed are Pinoy App Shop, Wireless Update and Fun Club. For some reason, the last one only shows sponsored links and no apps at all.
Google Apps |
Apart from Gmail and Play Music, other Google Apps, namely Voice, Now, Maps and YouTube are also installed.
Other Apps |
The other applications factory installed are the NQ Mobile Easy Finder for tracking your phone when it got lost; Backup and Restore for apps and personal information; SIM Tool Kit for accessing pre-defined options from the service provider; 100% Games for downloading Gameloft games; KakaoTalk and VOXCEE for instant messaging.
CONCLUSION:
The Cherry Mobile Pure XL is one the best smartphones that you can buy at the 7K price range. It gives you powerful internals, good build quality and decent cameras. It is a great alternative to Cherry Mobile Excalibur and Cherry Mobile Cosmos One, especially if you do not like their design or cannot find one at the store near you.
