After several teasers, rumors and leaks, Xiaomi finally unveiled its first-ever home-made chipset, the previously known pinecone is now called the Surge S1.

The Xiaomi Surge S1 is mid-tier system-on-chip based on 28nm manufacturing process, it has 8 Cortex-A53 CPU cores grouped into two clusters - four of which are clocked at 2.2GHz each and the other four have lower frequency of 1.4GHz each. The graphics processing unit is an ARM Mali-T860 that has four cores. This CPU and GPU combo aims to compete with other mid-range chipset that flooded the market with the likes of MediaTek P10 and P15, but expected to offer more due to higher CPU frequency and more GPU cores.
