To celebrate Independence day, Huawei Philippines teamed up with well-known local photographers, Veejay Villafranca, Larry Moserate-Piojo, and Dookie Ducay to launch the 100 Portraits, 100 Stories Campaign, wherein they captured their subjects using the brand’s flagship devices – the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus.
Here are some of our modern heroes and their stories:
Dookie Ducay photographed Earl Sunga (above image), a volunteer firefighter from Tondo for over six years. Although he puts his life in danger, Sunga claims that he enjoys his job every time. With a dream to improve our country, he finds fulfillment in helping people, and believes that all firefighters are heroes.

Ducay also captured a brave woman that comes from a family of police officers – Febe Abang, a policewoman from Tondo. Abang considers educating the public as one of the police works. True enough, apart from her police duties, she also goes around schools and educates children about the harm of drugs.

Villaranca captured a not an ordinary college student, as Dara Mae Tuazon is a hero to many. Tuazon is taking up Education at University of the East, and at her young age, she’s now a teacher to some kids of Manila. During her free time, she gathers street children to teach them spelling, math, shapes, colors, and other basic education. She now has 20 students.

Danilo Gonzales - a ‘Kutsero’; Photographed by Larry Monserate- Piojo |
Photographed by Larry Monserate-Piojo, next in line is Danilo Gonzales. In 1973, Gonzales came to Manila and started working as a fisherman, but later on, he decided to shift job as a Kutsero. He now considers this as a hobby and not as a work, as his purpose now is to share Philippine culture to tourists.

Lastly, Julius Nable – a housekeeper, and is photographed by Larry Piojo. Graduated from his vocational course as an electrician, Nable said he’s proud with his noble profession because with this, he could help the environment by promoting and maintaining cleanliness.
