Comes with a Super Selfie, Super Battery tagline, the device is geared with 20-megapixel camera with an f-stop f/2.0 with LED flash combined with 4000mAh lithium-ion non-removable battery.

As a selfie-centric smartphone, we’re impressed that the handset is matched with a huge power source to elevate its offering. But aside from this, what more it can offer that other selfie-centric devices cannot?

Joining a very busy market, is it worth the jump? Let’s dig deeper here!

PACKAGING:

Packaging
Packaging

Inside the box, the Gionee A1 Lite handset comes with 2A USB wall charger, USB 2.0 to micro USB data/charging cables, and earphones. The box also includes clear protective case, screen protector, cleaning cloth, SIM ejector tool, and paper documents.

PHYSICAL:

The A1 Lite is dressed with a plastic material that uses metallic paint. Although it’s a good looking smartphone, there are other devices on its price range that flaunt a more premium-looking design. It doesn’t appear cheap, though. The device isn’t big enough and heavy, too, allowing us to handle it with just one hand.

Front

Its front is dominated by a 5.3-inch IPS capacitive HD touchscreen display that has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Above the panel, its 20-megapixel front camera, LED flash, and speakers are located. Below the screen, it features non-backlit navigation keys.

Its volume rocker and power/lock button are placed on the right side, while its SIM card tray is sited alone on its left side. It offers triple slots for dual SIM and microSD card.

The device’s bottom part accommodates its 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB 2.0 port.

Back
Back

Flip the device on its back and you’d see its 13-megapixel rear camera accompanied with its LED flash. Its fingerprint scanner is situated right below the camera. On its lower part, the brand’s logo is located above the speaker grills.

Going back to its display, it sports a 5.3-inch IPS HD screen that has 1280 x 720 resolution. It offers good viewing experience. Its brightness worked well both indoor and outdoor, or even when exposed under sunlight. It scored 10 on multi-touch test, as well.

SOFTWARE:

Software
Software

The A1 Lite runs on Amigo UI 4.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. For us, it feels like a combination of iOS and an Android OS. Usually, phones without app drawer appeared unorganized, but its skin isn’t messy at all. It has system manager, too, which can help to optimize the device. Most pre-installed apps are also removable to give you more space.

PERFORMANCE:

Benchmark Result
Benchmark Result

The A1 Lite is powered by dated 64-bit MT6753 octa-core processor paired with Mali-T720 GPU. It is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The device can support multi-tasking. However, noting that it has an aging processor, the device lagged when we played games and videos with heavy graphics. It ran smoothly, though, when we closed multiple apps.

CAMERA:

Camera Settings

As a selfie-centric device, the A1 Lite is geared with 13-megapixel f/2.0 auto focus main camera with LED flash, and a bigger 20-megapixel f/2.0 front shooter with LED flash, as well. It has camera features to enhance your photos, including HDR, panorama, night mode, filters, face beauty, and smart scene. Its camera supports pro mode, too.

The device can take decent photos, offering balanced colors. Unfortunately, both cameras have poor low-light performance, as images became grainy. Noises became too visible, as well.

CONNECTIVITY:

The A1 Lite is a dual SIM device that supports dual standby and LTE connectivity. It has basic connectivity features, including WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. All of these worked well during our tests, as it has good signal reception.

Both cameras performed better on pro mode.

BATTERY:

PCMark Battery Test
PCMark Battery Test

Our favorite thing about the Gionee A1 Lite is its battery. Packed with huge 4000mAh juice, it supports long hours of continuous usage. Used as our basic phone, it lasted for almost two days. Basic activities include basic communications and casual browsing of social media accounts. As our main device, it lasted for a day. Daily tasks include basic communications, browsing of social media accounts, and heavy multimedia usage.

To see more how long it can last, we did our video loop test, where the device lasted for 13 hours and 04 minutes. During the process, we left its WiFi connection opened, while its brightness and volume were at maximum level.

We ran the device on PCMark, too. The result shows that it can last up to 11 hours and 42 minutes.

CONCLUSION:

Considering its price, we expect that it has a strong stand against other selfie-centric smartphones on its range. It has decent camera performance, but it will have a hard time battling out other devices. It has dated processor, too. Nevertheless, it can still support some multitasking.

However, if you are after a selfie-centric device that can last for days, then, you might consider getting the A1 Lite.

The Gionee A1 Lite is now available, and sells for Php12,999.
