Let’s face it, we’re now living in a world where photographs are becoming more and more essential to express our thoughts. On the other hand, various social media platforms now disguise as our modern galleries, where users can easily display their works. This is why people are so consumed of different mobile tricks to elevate their “feed goals.”

However, Huawei recently unveiled its revolutionary camera phone – the P20 Pro. Still co-engineered with Leica, the device flashes a triple camera setup that is composed of 40-megapixel f/1.8 RGB shooter, 20-megapixel f/1.6 monochrome sensor, and 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens. The device is equipped with 24-megapixel selfie snapper, too.

The camera-centric smartphone has 4D predictive focus, AIS, 5x zoom, 4K video recording, 960 fps slow motion, and dual tone LED flash. Moreover, if you love long exposure photography, its AIS promises to deliver steady images for up to 6 seconds even without the use of tripod. The phone also comes with A.I. technology that can intelligently detect more than 500 scenarios in 19 categories to produce more pro-like photographs.

Its front camera, on the other hand, is complemented with A.I. Face Beauty and 3D portrait lighting.

Offering different camera modes, we play around with the P20 Pro as we test its camera performance. Our objective is to see if the device can give us professional-looking images or even just feed-ready photos. With this, we would like to note that our team didn’t use any photography tools in taking our shots, and all these images were unedited.

Verdict:

The Huawei P20 Pro is currently enjoying the top spot of DxOMark Mobile Rankings. Followed by the P20 variant, both devices are also the first smartphones to get a hundred plus mark at DxOMark overall score. In fact, the Pro model has recorded an overall score of 109. It gets 114 and 98 points in photo and video tests, as well. Having this in mind, our team is really excited to push the P20 Pro at its best during our camera tests. Really, it didn’t disappoint us.

For us, its most impressive feature is its 5x zoom. We were able to take not just clear but also great photos even when the subject is too far from us. However, its 5x zoom works better in places with good lighting. It can deliver good photos in low-light settings, as well, it just happened that some noises became visible.

However, shooting night photos using the device is fun and never been exciting like this! It’s a good partner for users who love taking night photography. Also, we’re confident to say that it has the best low-light camera performance compared to other smartphones that we’ve tested yet.

Meanwhile, there were many times when we chose not to use its portrait and wide aperture modes because its bokeh effect turned unnatural. Nevertheless, taking a regular photo will give a bokeh effect that is more tolerable. So, disabling this feature isn’t a problem at all.

Overall, the P20 Pro met our expectations! We will post more photos on our full review. So, stay tuned!
