SJCAM, a well-known action camera maker and a popular alternative to a more expensive brands like Go Pro, unveils its latest offering in the Philippines. Meet the SJ8 series consists of the entry-level SJ8 Air, the mid-range SJ8 Plus, and the top of the line SJ8 Pro.

The SJ8 Air is the most affordable in the series, its SRP is Php4,999, but it is currently on sale and can be bought for only Php4,739. It sports a 2.33-inch IPS touchscreen display with 720x480 resolution, and powered by Novatek NT96658 chipset.

It has a 14.24MP camera with 1/2.33-inch Panasonic MN34112PA sensor and 7G 160-degree wide angle lens that can record videos up to 1269p at 2304x1296 resolution and capture stills up to 12MP. However, it has no digital zoom or stabilization of any kind. Other specs include USB Type-C port, 1200mAh battery, WiFi, and micro SD card support up to 128GB. Next is the SJCAM SJ8 Plus, it has a retail price tag of Php9,989, but currently only for Php9,479, if you are interested you can buy online at http://bit.ly/SJCAMSJ8Plus. It has dual screen setup, a 2.33-inch IPS display with 720x480 resolution for its main controls, and a 0.96-inch 128x64 OLED display that gives the user information while using it. Like the SJ8 Air, it is also powered by Novatek chipset, but this time it uses a higher variant, which is the NT96683.

The SJ8 Plus uses a Sony IMX117 sensor with 12MP resolution, f/2.8 aperture and 7G 170-degrees wide-angle lens. It can record videos up to 4K and capture still at 12MP (can be saved either in JPEG or RAW format). It has 3-axis gyroscope sensor for stabilization, in addition to the electronic image stabilization (EIS) for a more stable and blur-free output. Other important specs are 1,200mAh battery, micro SD card support up to 128GB, USB Type-C port, dual band WiFi, two microphones, and up to 8x digital zoom.

The last stop is the SJCAM SJ8 Pro, it is the most expensive and the best among the trio. It has a price tag of Php15,999, but like the other two SJ8s, it is currently being sold at a lower price, Php15,189 to be exact. It also has the same dual-screen setup as the SJ8 Plus, similar (if not the same lens), almost identical build quality, dual band WiFi, USB Type-C port, two microphones, and 1200mAh battery too.

It is powered by Ambarella H22 Chipset and boasts a high-end Sony IMX377 sensor. The SJ8 Pro can shoot videos up to 4K resolution in MP4 format in either H.264 or H.265 codec and capture images up to 12MP with up to 8x digital zoom. It has EIS and 6-axis gyro for better and clearer shots.

SJCAM has been available in the country for a few years now, but their presence was only made official last July 3 at a grand launch event held at Shangri-la at the Fort in BGC through Lucky HR, its distributor in the local market.
