INTRODUCTION:

Cherry Mobile recently partnered with D-Power, a Thai-based mobile accessory brand, to give Filipinos lots of affordable items that will complement their smartphones. One of these accessories is their powerbank lineup, and the one that caught our attention is the D-Power GC51L 12000mAh battery pack.

The main reason the D-Power GC51L got us, and made us decide to give it a full review, is because its packaging shows that it is compatible for both Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and Huawei Super Charge fast charging technologies. So, let's find out if it lives up to our expectation.

UNBOXING:

D-Power GC51L Powerbank Retail Package
Retail Package

The retail package consists of the unit itself along with the USB cable, surprisingly, there is no paper document of any kind, even a simple instruction manual is not included in the box. By the way, the USB cable in the package is the standard USB 2.0 Type A to USB 2.0 Micro Type B.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE:

The D-Power GC51L is available in two color options - black and white, we have the latter. It measures 140mm x 63mm x 22.5mm, and weighs about 277 grams. These numbers are considered portable and lightweight too. In fact, its height is smaller than most typical smartphones these days, and its weight is lighter than the Baseus Bracket Wireless Powerbank with 8000mAh capacity.

Front

In terms of design, it looks premium, and not boring at all, even if it is made entirely of ABS plastic. The front has a textured finish, and holds the LED indicators along with the company's logo and the QC 3.0 marking. Since there is no user manual in the package, we assumed that the 4 LED lights correspond to the amount of power left - 4 LEDs = 76% to 100%, 3 LEDs = 51% to 75%, 2 LEDs = 26% to 50%, and 1 LED = 0% to 25%.

On the right side, there is a gray-colored accents, and this is where you will find the power button as well as the two input ports, a MicroUSB plus a USB Type-C, that support up to 10W power input.

Meanwhile, the output ports are located at the top, the color green has the usual 5V1A (5V) output and can be considered as slow charging port. The orange one has the fast charging capability that has an output of up to 5V3A (15W), 9V2A (18W), or 5V/4A (20W).

We tested the output using different devices, and below are the complete test results:

Device Output 1 (Normal) Output 2 (Fast)
Huawei Mate 20 Pro 4.9V1.1A or 5.4W 8.8V1.5A or 13.2W
Huawei P30 4.6V1.3A or 6.0W 8.8V1.4A or 12.3W
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 4.7V1.3A or 6.1W 4.9V2.0A or 9.8W
Realme C1 4.9V0,9A or 4.4W 5.0V1.1A or 5.5W
OPPO R17 Pro 4.90.9A or 4.4W 4.9V1.9A or 9.3W
Samsung Galaxy A50 4.9V1.2A or 5.9W 8.9V1.3A or 11.6W
Samsung Galaxy S10 4.9V1.1A or 5.4W 8.5V1.6A or 13.6W
AfterShokz Trek Titanium (BT Headphones) 4.8V0.04A 0.2W 5.1V0.04A or 0.2W
Fitbit Ionic 5.1V0.16A or 0.8W 4.9V0.16A or 0.8W
Fitbit Charge 3 5.2V0.06A or 0.3W 5.1V0.06A or 0.3W

As you can see in the above table, the maximum output it reached was 13.6 watts, which is 8.5 volts by 1.6 amperes. The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 has indeed worked fine with the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 and OPPO R17 Pro, but somehow fell short with the Realme C1. As for the Huawei Super Charge, we are here to report that sadly it did not work. Thankfully, our phones still showed Quick Charging, and upon confirmation, it is still able to charge the Huawei Mate 20 Pro at more than 13 watts, and the Huawei P30 at more than 12 watts.

Fast Charging

On the other note, both output ports are able to supply charges to low-power devices without any issue for the likes of AfterShoks Bluetooth Headphones, Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Charge 3. This simply means that it is quite safe to use for all sorts of gadgets, as it automatically allocates optimal current to the device being charged. Speaking of safety, it has multiple circuit protection, and also CE, FCC and RoHS certified.

In terms of refueling the power core, it takes more about 7 hours to have the 4 LED lights to be back on. So, we suggest charging it before going to bed.
