LG recently brought its new XBOOM speaker line to the Philippines. The series is composed of the LG XBOOM Go PK5, LG XBOOM RK7, and LG XBOOM RL4. Fortunately, our team was able to play around with these devices, allowing us to pump up our music experience with its great sound quality and a sturdy body.

For now, let’s talk about the LG XBOOM Go PK5 to know how it elevates our chill time or even a small party. So, let’s dive in!


PHYSIQUE:

As a quick recap, LG makes sure that its new XBOOM series will allow users to enjoy portable speakers with great performance. True enough, we’re happy that the brand was able to deliver a compact wireless speaker without compensating its sound quality. In fact, this enables our team to power up our day wherever we are, as it comes with just 220 x 129 x 119mm body.

Retail Package

LG armed it with two handlebars to make sure that users can easily hold it with a solid grip. Hence, even if it has a bulky physique, we’re still able to bring the device from one place to another conveniently. Yes, with that size, it is still portable to carry around. Of course, do not expect that you can simply put it inside your bag as it will eat too much space and will add more weight, it is not meant for that.

Moving on, another thing we like about the PK5 is it has an IPX5 rating. With this, we’re confident to use the device outdoors, as it has protection against potential water damage. It also has a tough body, ensuring that it can survive some trembling.

Buttons and Controls

On the top of the PK5, you’ll see its control keys including the conventional power button, volume rockers, play/pause button, as well as the function keys for Clear Vocal, Enhanced Bass, Voice Assistant, and LED control.

Speaking of, what makes the device more attractive is its LED lights around the dual tweeters. The lights flash and blink depending on the rhythm of the song that’s currently playing. Users can also choose its color frequency or kept it at random. However, if you want to save some power or you simply want to keep it simple, then, you can just disable it.

Ports

Meanwhile, the front of the device is dominated by its speaker grilles, which show its dual tweeters and woofers.

The speaker also sports USB Type-C ports, which is a plus point for us since it is becoming the mainstream standard than the old MicroUSB type, a 3.5mm audio jack for auxiliary input in case you want a wired connection, and reset buttons.

PERFORMANCE:

Our team played a number of songs with different genres to better test its sound quality. We also brought it to different settings – including indoor and outdoor – to hear its performance as we play around with its volume rockers.

As expected, the device can fill a large room, but what impressed us the most is its powerful performance when we’re using it outside. Though it has little sound distortions, the speaker can produce great sound quality even when playing at its maximum volume. This is quite expected as the LG partnered with Meridian, a British company that pioneers on high-resolution audio since 1977, for their XBOOM speakers.

Compared to other Bluetooth speakers, its sound quality is better even if our connected device was far from its location. Moreover, LG perfectly made it to match different genres. As a result, it offers clear sound even when playing rock or electric songs. Its bass is also powerful without being too intense. Listening to acoustic songs was satisfying, as well. Thanks to Meridian's advanced digital signal processing that provides sounds that are so natural and remarkably nice to listen to.

The PK5 is juiced with a 5,200mAh battery. If you’re just using it casually, then, the device can last for almost three days. However, if you’re going to use it non-stop, expect that it can accompany you for a long 15-hour experience. Meanwhile, the device can last up to 16 to 17 hours if you’re going to turn off its LED light function.

For only Php7,490, LG enables music enthusiasts to have an impressive Bluetooth speaker. The XBOOM PK5 has trendy offerings that will allow consumers to have a unique experience. For us, the speaker matches users who enjoy hosting a small party outdoors. Of course, more expensive speakers deliver better sound quality than the PK5. But for its price segment, the speaker can surely battle out its rivals – thanks to its powerful performance paired with attractive features.
